I look to you, to where you stand

You're with her, and you're hand-in-hand

And even with this turmoil in my head

I'm happy for you

Nita Callahan was sitting in the school library, supposed to be reading. But she found that she couldn't read, much less tear her eyes away from the sight of Kit and his girlfriend. They both looked so happy, and she almost couldn't stand it. Almost. She had forced herself to rid herself of her regretful feelings, and she tried to be happy for Kit. She was able to be happy for him, but it hurt her. It hurt her more that Kit could have imagined.

I look to you, and see your smile

It seems that it could stretch a mile

I know you're hers, but would you please

Remember all we've been through?

She finally turned her head away, but was unable to focus on the words on the page. She strained her ears, but couldn't hear Kit's conversation. Kit hadn't spoken to her in a week, and she had found out just that morning that she had been put on active status. By the way that Kit was still not noticing her today, she assumed that he wasn't on active. She sighed, and relaxed against her chair, once more trying to read. She was unsuccessful.

Why did I never tell you how I felt?

I think you might have listened...

'Cause even when you're gone

I'm thinking of you, still

"Goodbye, Amy!" Kit's voice resounded loudly in the library's normal silence, earning him a glare from the librarian. Kit's girlfriend walked swiftly through the library doors, passing Nita on the way. Nita tried not to stare after her, and was successful.

"Hey Neets!" Kit said, sitting down in the chair next to Nita's. "You know we're on active?"

She couldn't help but grin, as she turned towards him. A slight shadow passed over his face as he looked at her closely for the first time in a week. "Are you okay?" he asked, seeing how tired she appeared. "Better," she answered, "what happened to Amy?"

Kit sighed, but a slight twinkle of amusement was in his eye. "I told her that you and I had something to work on today, and she got mad at me. I guess she got tired of me talking about you. What else?"

Nita smiled, and hugged Kit hard. "Thanks," she said, "I almost started to think you'd forgotten about me."

Kit hugged her back hard. "I would never do that."

I thought nothing would ever get between us

And as it turns out, nothing ever will.

A/N: I know, sort of short, and the song is sort of weird. But I wrote it a 1:00 AM a couple of days ago, so it was destined to be at least a little weird...
