He was finally there. The world seemed so small standing at the top of the Eiffel tower, the sky caught in that stunning transformation from day to night, leaving it a shade of gold and pink. The warm breeze felt good against his bare arms, his hair slightly ruffled, looking down at the people below. It was so peaceful. So quiet. So…
"ALEC WAKE UP!"
He gasped suddenly awoken from his blissful dream by a glass of water to the face.
"What the hell!" he yelled at Jace who was currently in fits of laughter, snapping pictures with his phone.
"Bro you need to stop falling asleep like that! It's unprofessional!"
"Don't talk to me about unprofessional," he muttered at smirking brother, getting up to grab a napkin of the counter. "You spend the whole day texting Clary, even when serving customers. You spilt a Latte on a girl last week!"
"That's different," said Jace jumping onto one of the tables, swinging his legs and gazing into the distance dreamily. "Clary and I are in love. I miss every minute we're not together. There is a magnetic force pulling us towards each other..."
"Ok, ok! I don't want to know anymore!" he said sticking his fingers in his ears like a little kid. He removed his apron and hung it up on the rack. He checked his watch. 10:00 pm. Great.
"You will understand what I mean when you meet your soulmate."
Alec didn't really believe in soulmates. His dating life wasn't exactly great. He wasn't sure if he could really call it a dating life as he had never really been on a date, but Alec had never really met someone he would be interested in going out with. That was a lie. Managing his parent's coffee shop had its many perks, such as observing lots of people, and though many girls had slid him their numbers messily scribbled onto napkins or scrunched up receipts, he wasn't interested in any of them except a certain handsome sparkly haired stranger who often frequented the café. Every day he ordered the same drink, at the same time and every time Alec was too scared to talk to him, letting his siblings take the order instead. Alec was almost certain he saw the man smile at him a few times but he was probably just being friendly. Even if the man was interested in him he would be too scared to go out with him. He came out to his parents when he was eighteen. His mother took it well. His dad? Not so much. He treated Alec more like an employee than a son. In fact, he was surprised when he was given the position of manager. It was only Alec, Izzy, Jace, Simon and Maia that worked at Pandemonium and Alec was sure Jace was going to get the job as Robert obviously preferred him over Alec, but when he was given the job he was convinced this was his mother's decision rather than his fathers but he wasn't going to be picky. He didn't plan to work in the café his whole life. He had plans to go abroad. To travel the world. To do something so un-stereotypically Alec.
"Come on, let's close up."
In 10 minutes Jace and Alec had closed up and where heading down to the apartment they shared. Alec craved sleep and couldn't wait to crawl into bed even if it was only 10:30. Alec began to think of that handsome stranger again and began to wonder what would happen if they did go on a date. Maybe he was really boring or maybe he was a jerk. But the more Alec thought about him the more he wanted to find out what he was like. And right there Alec made a promise to himself. Tomorrow Alec Lightwood would talk to the handsome stranger and tomorrow Alec Lightwood would ask out that handsome stranger. Or at least he would try.
