If it were anyone else, he'd be uncomfortable right now. James's back was crammed into the arm of the couch very awkwardly and his legs were nearly falling off for lack of room. Lily was curled up between him and the couch, partially draped over his chest. He'd heard of how lovely princesses were when they slept; Lily was far from lovely. One arm was hitched to her side while the other was flung across his body, her head was rested on his shoulder partially on his chest, and her mouth was slightly ajar. She was adorable. He never imagined such a sloppy position could be so endearing, it was so…her. She never wanted to be perfect she took on life in a way he'd never seen before; he could see her sass even as she slept peacefully.
They'd been studying in the Gryffindor common room but as it got later her yawns became more frequent and she eventually rested her head on his shoulder, shortly after James also nodded off. He'd woken several minutes before to find the rest of the Marauders along with Alice and Marlene giggling over the pair of sleepers.
Lily mumbled something in her sleep and nudged her face deeper into his shoulder. James strained his ears to catch what she was saying.
"…ames…lu…..vvvv…yyyeeewww J…am..esssss"
James's entire body had a tingle to it; he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and let the other lightly play with her hair. She hugged his body closer like he was a pillow; and he whispered to her "love you too Lil" he could've sworn before he shut his eyes in surrender of sleep, he saw a ghost of a smile cross her lips. He would've been uncomfortable, if it was anyone but her.
