Subaru sat at the kitchen table, a warm glass of milk in front of him; it was untouched, yet his mouth and lips were dry. He couldn't think of anything else. He could hear them in the other room, Kamui and… her… He knew it was true, he couldn't have Kamui in the way he wanted him; he also knew that it was his brother's responsibility to do this. The youngest prince must find a mate by the age of 17, and it was the clan's rules; but that didn't mean he had to like it. He wondered if Kamui was asleep yet, and maybe those sounds came from the television. He could hear her heart frantically beating, and her tinkly voice saying words he could not make out. He could hear Kamui's voice. Laughter from both of them now, and the conversation went on.
Subaru looked at the clock and swallowed the hard lump in his throat, only to have it return seconds later. It was 3:03 AM. God, he wanted to rip from the chair and tell them to go to sleep; but something held him there. He didn't want to make Kamui angry, or upset because of his own selfish desires. He sighed, standing and walking to his room alone. Kamui shared a room with her now, and he didn't have time for his twin. He clenched his fists as he walked past their room; his brother didn't even notice him. He could see the smile on Kamui's face; so bright and happy as his head rested on her lap. They had been talking for hours.
Subaru laid down in his bed, listening to their conversation, which was now clear enough to understand. He couldn't take this. He cupped his hands over his ears and closed his eyes.
Chapter 1:
Gomenesai
The morning had arrived, and Kamui sat at the table, drinking a glass of blood. The smell lingered within the house, filling every room with its delicious scent. Subaru prayed that she couldn't smell it; if she did, it would awaken her and Kamui would be gone, swept away by her lust. He swallowed as she approached. His prayers did not reach the heavens in time. She came out, wearing a skirt and one of Kamui's t-shirts. He twitched as she came closer. Kamui set the glass aside and she came over to hug him. They exchanged a kiss. Subaru's blood rushed through his veins, his heart beating so hard it was hurting him. Kamui could hear it, but he did not say anything.
She stretched and she walked outside with him. They were going to go pick out things for the wedding, he just knew it. Subaru bit his lip as his twin disappeared from sight. God, he wanted to cry, he wanted to tell Kamui how this made him feel, but he didn't. He couldn't. He knew it would only make him angry or upset. He slid to the floor and his eyes filled with warm tears, soon to stream down his face. "I'm sorry…" he whispered.
