DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of these characters...I'm simply using them towards my own evil (fan-fictional) ends. Hail the great and wondrous Diane Duane!
I lay responsibility for this squarely on several shoulders. You *know* who you are...
Her Big Day
by Elizabeth
"Are you nervous?" asked her sister.
They stood in the gazebo, waiting behind a makeshift curtain for their cue to move.
She considered the question. "Only my stomach," she confessed. "I shouldn't have eaten all those pancakes – no matter who was egging me on."
Her sister suppressed a snort of laughter. "Other than that?"
That answer didn't require thought. "Nope," she said with conviction. "Kit and I have had this coming for a while. Even before either of us realized it. I'm ready to get one part of my life over with and start the next."
"It's almost time," her father said as he stepped through the curtain. At sight of her he stopped in place, a wide range of emotions playing across his face.
"You look beautiful," he managed after a moment. " I only wish your mother could see you."
"She does," her sister's voice didn't waver.
She smiled through her tears, secure at last in the knowledge of Timeheart. She let them each have their moment of silence. Then, unable to help herself, she added "And won't she be surprised- she picked the wrong Callahan sister to worry about."
"Dairine," her father tried not to smile. Her matron of honor made no such attempt.
"If you weren't about to be married, I'd send you and your bed back to Pluto," Nita gently teased her sister. Dairine had the perfect retort on the tip of her tongue, but just then the sounds of the processional came through the curtain. Nita took her place, and then stepped out. Four measures and endless heartbeats later, Dairine took her father's arm and walked out into her new life.
