I do not own Doctor who/Sarah Jane Smith
This is Sarah Jane's thoughts when she sees the Doctor in 'The End of Time'
As Sarah gazed across the street, she saw the familiar blue box with its owner standing in front of it. But to her the Doctor looked different, he looked miserable. Gone was he's cheerful self that she had seen not long ago after the events in the Crucible. Now there was only a man, who looked empty and alone. As she stood there looking at the Doctor, she did not know why he did not come over, give her a hug and tell her all about his wonderful journeys. It was as he wanted a glimpse of her, just a moment, so that he could remember what she looked like, a kind of goodbye. That is when it hit Sarah. She knew that this was going to be the last time she ever saw the Doctor and it hurt. She had lost him so many times in her life that she had thought that when she lost him again, it would not hurt as much, but it did. But why, why was it that he had decided that he would not see her again. Did he know something was going to happen to him, that he would be unable to see her again? This man, who thought he had no one, has the biggest family in the universe and yet he will not ask for help. He always puts himself first before others, never thinking that anyone would want to help him, that they would do anything for him. As Sarah gazed at the Doctor, she knew that even though he thought that this would be the last time he would see her again, he was wrong. For she would always see him, in her heart, in her mind and in her dreams. The remarkable Doctor, who would always be willing to help anybody who was in need, regardless of himself, was yet again alone and about to start another journey of his life.
As the Doctor waves his goodbye and heads back into the Tardis, a smile plays on her lips for she knows that;
The Doctor, the greatest man in the universe, but always the loneliest.
Will never be forgotten.
