"Welcome, Miku Hatsune. You have been activated."
The voice echoing in Miku's ears snapped her awake. She tried prying her eyes open, but they just didn't want to.
"Where am I?" She asked herself. She tried moving her arms, but her muscles weren't working. She was floating in some sort of liquid, that she knew, but why was she so weak? As she pondered what to do, questions began to start racing through her mind.
'What's my name? How am I thinking? How do I know I'm thinking? Am I dead? What am I? Am I alone?' As much as she wanted to, she couldn't answer any of the questions herself. Suddenly, she heard what sounded like a gurgling sound. As she listened closely, trying to make out what it was, she realized she wasn't breathing. She wondered how she was still alive when suddenly; she realized what the sound had been. The liquid was being drained. She wanted to ask what was happening, but who was there to ask? Slowly, she sank to the floor as the level of water got lower and lower. When she felt the smooth surface for the first time, she was stunned. It hurt so unbelievably bad just to graze it with her fingers that she wanted to cry out in agony. Suddenly, she heard a scream.
It startled her, but not enough to snap her body into motion. It took her a minute or two to figure out that it was herself who had been the one screaming, and when she did, it kept replaying in her mind.
'Is that what I sound like...?'
She liked the sound. Even though it was a scream, it sounded pretty. Although, since she had never heard another scream before, so she really couldn't judge now. Suddenly, there was a blinding yellow light that seared through her eyelids. She wanted to scream again, but her mouth wouldn't move. She was lying on the floor now, and all she could feel were thousands of tiny needles piercing her skin. With her sensitive ears, she heard a male walk in. By the sound of his foot hitting the floor, she predicted that his weight was somewhere in the one fifty range, and his age was around mid-forties.
She felt a gust of air as he walked in, and guessed that he was wearing a lab coat. He said nothing, but she sensed great friendliness emanating from him. She also sensed two men standing guard outside what seemed to be the "tank" she was in. The friendly man bent down and scooped her up carefully, trying hard not to hurt her, but she still moaned in agony. Her breath came in shallow gasps as she tried to ignore the pain. She was completely limp in his arms, but somehow managed to open her eyes a little. The man was looking down at her, smiling. He had a friendly face with a thin mustache, and glasses. His hair was white, too, and he was wearing a lab coat as she had predicted.
"Hello, Miku." He said sweetly, his words like molasses. She looked hard into his eyes. The mesmerizing blue orbs told her everything. He had been interested in being a scientist since just the age of five, and began to learn from his father. When he grew up, he did become a scientist. And he married a woman named Mellissa, who seemed to have passed away a couple years ago. He had worked wherever they were now ever since, and had always regretted not having a child while he could have. She wanted to know more about him, because it was only her nature to be curious, but new thoughts clouded his mind. They were thoughts of happiness. He was thinking about her, and how he wanted to raise her as his own. He blinked and the connection broke. She closed her eyes, tired again. While she had been looking into his eyes, he had only walked five steps more, but it seemed like a whole hour had passed. He placed her on a hospital bed, and two other men came rushing over. They dressed her in a hospital gown, and lay her back down quickly, walking away shortly after.
How peculiar.
