I DON'T OWN HARRY POTTER OR ANY OF ITS CHARACTERS
You can't really understand unrequited love until you've experienced it yourself. It's probably one of the most dark, tainted forms of what should be pure, blissful love. You're in the dark, hiding in the shadows, watching from afar. Longing to feel yet hiding for fear—of what? Rejection?
Really, it's a fear of yourself. You're already holding yourself back from so many other pure, complete emotions—what's one more to the list? If you allow yourself to truly feel, to truly jump, to take that giant leap of faith over that jagged cliff, hoping someone will catch you... What will come next?
Your life has become what feels like a never ending circus act, and you're one of the trained monkeys performing. You smile big, you crack funny jokes, you take your bow—and then what? Who are you off-stage? You'll never know because you never step off; you're forever locked into the spotlight.
Does anyone else see her like you do? Does anyone see how cute she looks with her hair tied back, or how she stutters just the tinest bit when she reads in class? Does anyone see you watching her out of the corner of your eye? In a room full of people, your eyes seek hers, and that's all it takes for you to clam up. The spotlight is blinding, the heat of it making you flush, and your audience is roaring their approval; your act is best whenever she's around.
You're a coward. Poor little Sirius Black, afraid of rejection from a simple girl with brown eyes and a big smile. But you just can't help yourself because you love watching too much to stop. Even though it's killing you inside, watching from afar and never stepping closer, it's all you can handle because you're afraid of losing control. And you know that if you get too close, too entranced in her spell, that you will most definitely lose it. You don't know what's been locked deep inside of you, and you don't want to find out.
She's dangerous, this brown-eyed girl that only you seem to notice. She holds the key to your heart, to your darkest secrets, and if you get too close, she might figure out how to use it. Unrequited love is truly the most dark, tainted forms of what should be pure, blissful love because it lacks the most essential element required:
Trust.
And it just sucks, really, because it's not even her fault—it's yours.
