The Warrior Goddess's Last Wish
Lightning kneeled down in front of the shrine of Etro, giving a prayer.
A prayer of strength. But not to herself, but to her sister, Serah, and Noel, too.
She knew that she might not make her next battle, so she wanted those two to make it for her.
A presence of evil rose behind her.
Lightning, taking up to her name, quickly summoned her gunblade. She slashed behind her, but no one was there to take the blow.
Puzzled, she darted her eyes around the dim room.
"Looking for someone?" A deep, familiar voice asked.
Lightning turned around, ready to fight.
Caius Ballad was atop the crystal shrine, smirtking, with an evil glint in his beryl blue eyes.
The Warrior Goddess scowled at the purple haired antagonist. "About time."
He smiled. "Time for our battle." Caius charged down, slinging his Ragnarok blade down at the goddess's guardian.
Lightning rose her gunblade, blocking his attack. But, the impact of the hit forcefully reeled her back.
It knocked the wind out of her and made her wobble and her vision go blurred.
What's the matter with me? She thought, and before she even knew it, something sharp struck her in the abdomen.
Lightning's silver armor ripped, exposing her pale skin to the sword.
Caius, having the advantage, ever so quickly got another hit, and her skin was deeply sliced.
She buckled her knees in pain, and clutched her torn-up abdomen. Crimson blood seeped through her fingers. Lightning panted, but she then strained her to stand back up. She wasn't going to give up that quickly. That was not Lightning's motive in battle.
"You want to kill me now?" Caius asked, a sly tone being hinted in his deep voice.
The pinkette gasped out her words. "No matter how much I desire to do so, I can not and will not, Caius Ballad."
His eyes turn to slits, and he growled. "Then I shall take the offer into killing you!" He struck down his blade on her before she could even defend herself.
Lightning fell to the cold floor in a heap, and blood was now dripping down her scalp. She knew she was failing, and was debating if she should surrender.
Caius sighed. "I'm not making your death quick. You shall suffer just like Yeul." His boots thumped against the ground as he walked away, and disappeared from the fallen warrior's vision.
Lightning embraced her defeat. She could barely move, barely breathe, and barely think.
The goddess, Etro, didn't want to know that her fighters died an ugly and painful death. Not saying she wanted her fighters to die at all.
With the last of her own power, she rose Lightning to her shrine, and sat her atop it. She let Lightning have the last of her life.
The Farron's eyes started to flutter. She wished of only one thing of the goddess.
"Etro, please, give Noel and Serah the strength to finish what I couldn't." And as her eyes slowly shut, a single tear cascaded down her cheek.
As Lightning's heartbeat started to fade, and her blood had started to flow very slowly through her vein, her body was being encased in crystal from head to toe.
I hope to see you soon, and get to be with you, Serah. Was her last thought, as she went into her second stasis of a crystal slumber.
The End…Or is it?
