Artemis sighed and leaned back into the hands that were working their way through her hair, combing it and smoothing it until it was in a workable strand. He then started to braid one of her braids back into a French braid.
This was calming; feeling his hands softly work her usually untouchable hair into manageable pieces. They both ignored the looks from the Team as they would walk by—although, not a lot of them were really awake, it was, after all, four in the morning.
He was a bat and she was hyped up on adrenaline.
Artemis placed another one of her arrows that she had just polished on the ground to grab another. The cloth in her hand polishing the arrowhead and shaft before she would check to make sure all of it worked properly and would fall apart.
She felt a small tug on one of her bangs and she smiled, "You need me to hold it?" her voice was light and slightly teasing in tone.
He let her take it as he went to go work on the opposing sides bangs. She slightly leaned into the action only for him to straighten her head, "Don't move," he scolded.
She hummed in response and didn't stop in cleaning her arrows. "You used to do this with you're mom, didn't you?"
The pause lasted for a second before he continued to braid her bang back, "She taught me." She waited for him to correct himself. The lie was to obvious for even him to tell. It wasn't convincing and he knew it. "Well…it was more like I saw her do it so many times and I just learned."
Artemis sighed in relaxation and let Jason take the other bang and pull it back to join it into one braid. "Mom got to the point where she was so sick that she couldn't keep her hands steady enough to braid, so I did it for her."
Artemis frowned and hoped that he couldn't see it. He finished braiding her hair and let it drop against her back. "I'm going to bed," he said abruptly and tried to get up, but Artemis grabbed his hand and pulled him down so he was sitting next to her.
She put an arm around him, "Don't go to bed upset, kid. Stay up and lets watch an episode of Psych."
She smiled as he slowly went limp under her arm as the episode went on. She let out another little breath before letting herself fall asleep too.
