"Wait" Ash stops, looking over his shoulder, eyes flitting to the figure not far behind him. The word echoing in his head, in his heart. It doesn't echo around them, though. They where at a poorly lit park by the train station, their figures casting exaggerated shadows on the grass beside them, so the word had no where to go. It was lost in the darkness.
He looked at Gary who was shifting uncomfortably on his feet. As if he regretted saying the word, maybe it escaped him with out conscious thought. Or maybe it was a moment of utter weakness. Gary didn't want him to leave, but Ash already knew that.
Gary offered his arms out. Something Ash couldn't refuse.
Ash felt himself being pulled in tight to the hug, feeling almost intoxicated by the scent of Gary's clothes. It wasn't a particularly sweet scent, it had more of a freshness to it.
Ash wondered if Gary was aware of their bodies anymore. they had been in each others arms for a while, but as he went to pull away, Gary pulled him even tighter than previous, before letting go.
Ash was breathless, his face flushing a little and his heart pounding.
Gary faintly smiled at Ash, his hands sweaty and a little shaky, who returned one with a flash of a dimple.
Ash wondered silently as he walked away if Gary had ever felt the same infatuated way Ash had felt about him, or maybe Gary would just miss Ash's visits. Moving to another region was sort of a big deal.
Gary had slumped down onto a wooden park bench after Ash had left. The feeling that he would never see that boy again was overbearing, and had been ebbing away at him for some time.
But there had been some relief to it; his feelings towards Ash would finally be able to die, and even though that was painful, Gary knew that this was the only way of making sure he didn't ruin their friendship. He wanted Ash to stay, but he had to move on.
