AN: Last one! I finished it! Prompt number 51 - "You're bleeding!"
It was all over. This was, finally, the end. Castle Oblivion was on fire, burning down to the ground, taking us with it. Not that many of us were still here to witness it – just Roxas and me. We stood in the middle of one of the hallways, flames licking up the walls, and just looked at each other.
"You're bleeding, Axel."
"So I am. You do worry about some strange things, Roxas. What does it matter if I'm bleeding when we're about to burn to death?"
He tossed his keyblades, useless now, onto the floor beside my abandoned chakrams, and moves closer, taking hold of my hands. In the flickering light from the fire, I can see he's bleeding, too. Perhaps that explains why neither one of us has the strength to open a portal, but then again, maybe not. This whole war has been about destiny, right? Roxas's keyblades signify that. Then perhaps it's our destiny to die now, in a blaze of glory, having defended the castle. Always sounds better in the stories than when you're actually facing it. Typical.
Roxas and I hold each other close, both knowing that this is the end. Maybe, when someone comes to inspect the burned remains, they'll find us like this, entwined, not having to hide any more.
………………
It was days before the fire died down. When it had, Kairi picked her way through the charred remains of what had been her prison. A patch of glowing embers made her pause, and look more closely at the spot. The names Axel and Roxas were carved into the stone floor, surrounded by a heart. It was this that still glowed, as if in memory of the pyromaniac who had died there, after scratching out the names. She smiled, remembering the time they'd spent together. Yes, she'd been kidnapped, but it hadn't been particularly bad, living here. She actually had fond memories of those particular Nobodies.
"I'll always remember you." A whispered promise that no-one else heard, but Kairi would honour forever.
