Quinn Fabray opened the door. The sun hit her face and immediately she was felt warm and safe. She stared around at all the other students hurrying along to the welcoming ceremony. She was finally here. She, Lucy Quinn Fabray was at the College of her dreams; Yale University. "Oh Quinnie, I am so proud of you," her mother whispered as she pulled her into a warm embrace.
Her mother started to cry and Quinn pushed away smiling. "Mum, please don't cry," she said with a smile, "This isn't goodbye for ever,"
"I'll miss you though," her mum responded.
"I'll visit you in the holidays,". Her mother smiled and hugged her one last time.
"Shall we find your dorm room?" she asked,
"Sure," Quinn sighed. She knew that she would have to allow her mother the comfort of knowing she was fine.
They carried some bags towards the residential college. It was a building made of white brick and was of very unique architecture. "I am on the 2nd floor in Dorm 12," Quinn said as they climbed the wooden staircase. They found dorm 12 and Quinn unlocked it. No one else appeared to be home. "Shall I go get the rest of the stuff," Judy asked.
"Ok," Quinn smiled. Her mother left and Quinn walked down a hall to the bedrooms.
"You're lucky that you're second, you can pick the next best room,". Quinn turned around to a girl with brown curly hair. "I didn't realize anyone else was here," Quinn replied,
"Just you and me so far. I'm Stella," the girl told her, "go unpack your stuff, than we can properly talk," She walked back in her room and shut the door. Quinn was a little surprised with the sudden exit but turned into the room. It was furnished appropriately. There was a bed and a wardrobe, and a large mirror next to it. Quinn walked up to the mirror after setting her bags down. She gazed at herself and suddenly it all came back.
It were only a couple of months back that I walked the halls of McKinley as a National Champ, not for cheerleading but for Glee Club. Glee Club was a home to me and the people in it were not just my friends, but my family. I may be away from them here, but I still have them in my heart. This is my chance for the future.
Judy came back and knocked on the door, distracting Quinn. "This is the last of your stuff," she announced, "I'm gonna miss you,".
"Mum don't start with the tears again," Quinn laughed giving her mum one last hug.
"You call me if you need anything. Anything," her mum made her promise. She gave her one last wave from below her window and she was gone. Quinn walked over to her pile of boxes and began unpacking. She arranged her clothes appropriately and placed her favourite books on a shelf above a wooden desk. She placed her laptop computer on the desk and finally opened the last box. There were important photos of people she didn't want to forget.
I know I told myself I had to let go but it doesn't mean I have to forget.
She picked up the first picture frame. It was a photo of her with her two girls, Santana and Brittany.
Santana and Brittany. The Un-Holy Trinity. These girls were two of my best friends. It just seems so strange that Brittany is still at McKinley and Santana is… well somewhere.
She put down the photo and picked up the photo of the Glee Club with the National Championship Trophy.
It's strange to think that in the first year of High School, I would never have even thought of joining Glee Club. The Cheerios were my life. So much changed. Obviously with my pregnancy and the whole Finn dramas. I could have never been here if it wasn't for Glee Club.
She took the photo, and place it on the wall her desk leant on. She place the photo of the Un-Holy Trinity on the desk and returned to the bed. There was a photo of her with a shorter girl with brown hair. They were both in graduation gowns and they were hugging.
Rachel Berry. Of all people at McKinley, I think I miss her most. Not her arrogant no-it-all comments of course but her optimistic attitude. She inspired me to be a better person. I treated her badly in the first 3 years of High School but she never held a grudge. I learnt from her that everyone deserves acceptance and to never give up on my dreams.
Quinn smiled at the thought of the perky girl. She walked to her mirror and stuck it at the top. "So I always have some inspiration," she thought. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. The girl, Stella from before opened the door and popped her head in. "Sign-in is about to begin," she said, "So if you wanna get down there and sign-in I'd do so,"
"Have you already signed in?" Quinn asked
"Yeah, I have been here since last night,"
"Oh okay, so where do I sign-in,"
"Down at the Admissions Office"
"Would you be able to show me?"
The girl made a face that indicated she was thinking of an excuse. "Sorry, I… have to finish unpacking," Stella answered. She shut the door leaving Quinn unsure about her roommate. Quinn decided that she might as well go find it. It would give her a chance to see the campus. She shut the boxes full of photos and left the dorm. She was exiting the residential college when a girl approached her with a pleasant smile. She was round and reminded Quinn of a happy Lauren Zizes. "Hi, are you lost?" the girl asked
"Um sorta. Do you know where the Admission's Office is?" Quinn replied,
"Of course. I can take you there,"
"Thanks, that would be nice,"
The two started walking towards a large building.
"I'm Tayla Adams by the way,"
"Quinn Fabray,"
She extended her hand which Tayla shook.
"So whereabouts are you from?"
"Ohio, a place called Lima"
"Oh a school there won the National Glee Club Championships in Chicago,"
"Yeah, McKinley High,"
The girl turned to her.
"Did you go to school there?"
"Yeah,"
"Were you part of the Glee Club. Um something Direction,"
"New Direction and yes I was,"
"Wow! That is really cool. My club, 'The Waffletoots' came in third at the New York Championships and then 6th in Chicago."
"Wow New York was… a total disaster for us,"
"Oh yeah, I watched the YouTube clip, 'The Kiss that Missed'. That must have been pretty embarrassing,"
"It was a little."
"Still your club came back and took the prize. It was pretty shocking for us,"
"Yeah I guess it was,"
The girls chatted more as they walked to the Admissions Office to sign-in. In the office Quinn almost ran into a boy. He reminded her of Puck, her former High School flame. He had tanned skin, black hair and brown eyes, the colour of chocolate. "Um sorry about that," Quinn blushed whilst apologizing. The boy was carrying a guitar case.
"It's cool," he told her, "I'm Harry,"
He held out his hand to her.
"Quinn," she replied, taking his hand.
"Well Quinn, it's nice to meet you. I'll see you round maybe,"
He flashed her a warm smile which she returned before he exited the building. Quinn approached the counter and spoke to the lady.
"Name please,"
"Quinn Fabray. Studying Dramatic Arts,"
"Ah yes, welcome to Yale Miss Fabray."
Quinn smiled and returned outside where Tayla was waiting.
"So all good," she asked.
"Yea, all good" Quinn answered.
They began to walk back to the dorms when a girl with blue-black hair walked rudely barged through them.
"That was rude," Quinn said to Tayla as they stared at the girl who marched in the direction they'd just come from.
"Some people are going to be like that," Tayla replied, "Yale is a top University and so a lot of the people here will probably think themselves better than others,"
"Sounds like a friend of mine"
Quinn smiled at the thought of Rachel Berry and wondered how she was finding NYADA.
"Well I have to go but we should meet up for coffee,"
"Um sure, heres my phone"
Quinn handed Tayla her phone as she punched in her number.
"See you later," Tayla smiled and waved before leaving. Quinn headed back into her dorm room. There were bags strewn all over the place.
"Looks like a bomb exploded here hey,"
Quinn turned to see the mysterious Stella standing there.
"Yeah it is pretty untidy. Our roommates?"
"Yea, the dragon,"
"dragon?"
"Yep, she came in here barking orders and breathing fire,"
"Okay," Quinn brushed past Stella and headed to her bedroom.
"We should discuss duties,"
Quinn glanced up at Stella in her doorway,
"Like what?"
"You know, who buys what and who cleans what,"
"oh right. Maybe we should wait for the other one,"
"Yea I doubt she will be any help what so ever,"
"I guess we could…"
Quinn was interrupted by the return of their roommate. To her shock it was the rude girl who had barged through her and Tayla before.
"Who touched my stuff,"
Stella and Quinn glanced at each other and nervously looked away.
"Come on, Barbie and whatever you are supposed to be,"
She stared at Stella who smiled,
"Intelligent, which is something you obviously lack,"
The girl rolled her eyes.
"Whatever."
She moved to collect her stuff and take it to her room. Quinn shut the door as Stella returned to her room. She decided to finish unpacking. She placed everything in neat order, sorted the rest of her clothes and put up a few more photos. She then collected the handbook off her desk and began to read through it.
She tried to focus but she felt uneasy with her new roommates. She put the book down and lay her head on her pillow. An hour later Quinn heard a knock on her door.
"Come in," she said as she flipped through the handbook. It was the roommate that Stella referred to as Dragon.
"Sorry about before. I have had a tough couple of days,"
Quinn looked shocked
"I know that feeling," she assured her.
"So I was thinking, maybe we should hit New Haven and see what the city has to offer to babes like us,"
"Sounds good. I might just get changed first,"
The girl turned to leave. "I'm Dannielle by the way,"
"Quinn," Quinn introduced herself.
"Cool, meet me out here when you're done,"
Quinn opened her cupboard. Normally she would have worn her old cardigans and sun dresses but she decided to shake it up a bit.
She met Dannielle in the lounge.
"Maybe we should ask Stella?" Quinn suggested,
"Already did. She wasn't in her room," Dannielle replied,
"Oh well. Let's go,"
The girls walked outside and met Harry and two other guys.
"You guys going into New Haven," he smiled, his eyes had a distinct glint.
"Sure are," Dannielle replied, "Wanna come with,"
"Sure we haven't anything better to do," answered a blonde guy, "I am Seth,"
"Yea and I am Harry. The guy next to me is Lucas,"
Lucas gave a smile.
"So are we heading boys," Dannielle asked smiling,
"Yea but you haven't told us your names,"
"Hers is Quinn,"
Seth looked at Harry,
"We met earlier," he informed them
"I am Dannielle,"
"Alright, lets hit the town,"
The left the Residential College and headed out into New Haven.
