She lay back on the spiky grass, the result of a long, dry summer. She didn't care though. It was a balmy January night and impossible to get cool. The green ant biting her elbow was a nuisance, but nothing distracted her from the slight cooling breeze from the West.

She gazed at the dark sky above her, scattered fluffy clouds to the right, but for the most part, a clear starry night. She was enticed out there originally by a Satellite flare that was soon due overhead, a science nerd from when she was a little girl. It flared on time, and she grinned delightedly at the event. The longer she marvelled at the sky, the more stars appeared. She wondered if the people in cars racing down the street or the ones sitting in front of their televisions ever paused to look up, to appreciate the wonder of the universe. Probably not. Technology and an over-loaded lifestyle saw more folk looking down than gazing up in awe. What would happen if they just stopped? Stopped updating their status, stopped scrolling for likes, finished sending that email later – what?

Well, there she was. Not wondering. Doing. Letting the energy of the Earth soak into her being, with her palms face down on the grass. Absorbing the universe's wonders into her soul through her awe-filled eyes. She didn't care if her hair was wild. She wasn't worried about her chipped manicure. She had her favourite ratty dress on. But she wasn't worried. She was here. In this moment. With the universe.
