A/N: Hi everyone, this is just a little one shot that came about when I was working with my friend to name Ryan's baby. (She named her for me.) This is really bad, mind you, but I just wanted to work this out so that I could get on with my new fic. I'm working on a multi chapter, and I had to write this to explain what's to come. Make sure you check it out, it'll be called And The Cradle Will Fall. So anyway, love you all, R&R! Yours 'till the wheels fall off ;)
"Well I don't know if I'm ready to be the man I have to be. I'll take a breath, I'll take her by my side, we stand in awe, we've created life"-Creed
Kevin Ryan sat beside his wife, brushing the hair back from her face. Though she probably didn't think so, she was as beautiful as she had ever been right now, holding their newborn child.
"She's perfect," Jenny whispered, gently tracing over the curve of the baby's cheek with her pinky.
"She is," he murmured, watching her little chest go up and down with each intake of breath. There was a cautious knock on the glass, and they looked up. Kate, Lanie, Richard, and Javier stood outside, uncertain whether or not to come in. He motioned them with a silent hand.
"She's so beautiful," Kate said quietly, bending down beside Jenny.
"What's her name?" Lanie asked, standing beside Beckett.
"Riley Kathrine Ryan," he and Jenny said together. As if she'd heard her name being called, she opened her eyes and her mouth. Rather than crying, she yawned and then looked up in wonder. They all smiled, but no one did as much as Kevin.
"You didn't hyphenate the last name?" Castle questioned. Kate looked over at him and rolled her eyes.
"You would be the one to point that out, Castle," she told him. He shrugged.
"We were going to," Jenny started to explain.
"But could you imagine Riley Kathrine Ryan-Duffy-O'Malley?" Ryan picked up. They all grimaced.
"It's a little...wordy," Castle offered.
"We know," Jenny said, gazing down at Riley.
"What, you didn't name her after me?" Javier asked, mock serious. Kevin laughed, quietly, though, as to not upset her.
"Riley Kathrine Javier Ryan? Sorry bro, I don't see that working out." Javier waved him off and leaned down to Riley, shaking her hand with his thumb and grinning.
"It doesn't matter. You're gonna be a heartbreaker," he told her.
"We actually named her after Kate," Jenny said, smiling at the detective. She looked shocked as she mouthed the name over again to herself.
"Oh," she breathed, obviously flustered, "You didn't...I mean..."
"We talked about it, and we decided that we wanted to name her after someone who was strong, brave, beautiful, and independent. And we decided that woman was you," Kevin announced.
"May I?" Lanie asked, holding her arms out for Riley. Carefully, Jenny placed her in her arms.
"She really is gorgeous." And as Kevin Ryan looked at his newborn baby girl, his stunning wife, and his close circle of friends, he knew that he was as happy as he was ever going to be.
