I Don't Understand

Isabel Night

So, Anubis is the new Ancient One. He has promised to put his past behind him and move on with his life, but I don't think he'll be able to do it. I was there with Anubis at the train tracks, and I know what I saw.

When Dais appeared on top of one the beams that secured the electrical lines that power the trains, I was afraid. I was afraid that Dais had come to this desolate area to kill Anubis, but much to my joy, Anubis held his own and defeated the Warlord of Illusion. However, when I saw Anubis and Dais talking, I feared that Anubis' past would never leave him alone.

Although I had only seen his warm smile two times, the way he looked and talked to Dais reminded me of the warm smiles he gave Yulie and me. He spoke to Dais in an even, gentle tone of voice. I quickly caught a glimpse of his blue-green eyes; they were warm and caring, much like the first time I had seen them when Anubis revealed that he was the new Ancient One. The way he looked at Dais almost seemed to hurt the Warlord of Illusion, but some part of me was confused. Why didn't Anubis hate Dais, Cale, and Sekhmet? Why didn't he kill the Warlord of Illusion now? I knew that if Anubis and the three Dark Warlords crossed paths again, something was going to happen. I knew that at the very least Anubis might get captured, but I also feared the worst, maybe Anubis would end up dead in the arms of one of the Warlords.

As we walked past Dais, I turned to look behind me. The Warlord of Illusion's Blue-Gray eye held so much pain and sorrow that I didn't know what to make of it. Strangely enough, I got my answer when Yulie asked, "Were you two friends once?"

It was such an innocent question, and yet, when Anubis answered, "Yes" in his calm voice, I knew that Yulie's question had struck a chord within the ex-Warlord's heart. That's when I became afraid, I now knew the truth: as long as the other three Warlords were still alive, Anubis could never leave his past behind. As much as he would like to leave his past behind, Dais, Cale, and Sekhmet won't allow it. If Cale and Sekhmet's hearts feel the same pain as Dais' heart, then all three of them will never allow Anubis to let go of his past or their past friendship. Unfortunately, that is the part I do not understand.
