Title: Leap of Faith
Summary: /This is Neal and Alex/. Well it doesn't always have to be like this. Short One-shot/ Could be a drabble.
Author's Note: Something that came into my mind. First White Collar fanfiction so excuse my oocness or something. Haha. I love Neal and Alex, to the point I'm sort of thinking of making a season 3 rewrite … We'll see after this one? I don't know if I'm even capable of doing them justice. Especially because I barely edited this {I'm leaving tomorrow on vacation!} and there might be mistakes. Haha. Impulse writing yeah ! Anyway, Read and let me know what you think, yeah? Enjoy !
"This is Neal and Alex."
She then leaned in and softly kissed him and he didn't resist her. Instead he inevitably kissed her back. This is Neal and Alex. Neal never being able to push her away and Alex never being able to have him. The two of them constantly questioning each other's motives, never fully trusting each other but never able to stay away. Because even if they were horrible at fully trusting each other, they were good together.
Before he could grasp her, she pulled away and flashed him a small sad smile. She patted his shoulder before walking past him. He lost how many times she'd walk by him and he'd let her walk by and disappear out of his life.
This is Neal and Alex.
Well, it didn't have to be.
"It doesn't have to be like this Alex." He softly yet firmly said to her back.
Stopping in her tracks, she sighed before turning around to face him. "Doesn't have to be what, Neal?"
Taking steps closer to her, slowly, "This doesn't have to be Neal and Alex. You know we could be so much more than this. I don't have to be that treasure you can't seem to reach." Now in front of her, he reached for her hands as he softly finished, "Cause I'm right here."
She bit her lip as she stared at their now-laced fingers. Swallowing before looking up at him, she shook her head. "We can't. We can't even trust each other. I'm always going to think that you're going to set me up and you're going to think the same. We don't work Neal."
He can see the conflicting emotions in her eyes as she stared back at him, sadness being the dominant emotion in her eyes. He swallowed harshly as he shook his head. "No, it doesn't always have to be. I trust you, Alex. Take a leap of faith with me."
"Not again." She said, shaking her head and pulling her hands away and taking a step back.
He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her back to him, her body molding itself to his, her hands landing on to his chest. He pressed her hands firmly onto his chest, where his heart lay, so she could feel his heart beat. Fast.
"Trust my heart Alex. If you can't trust me and my mind and thoughts." He whispered.
Her mouth tried to form words as her mind tried to grasp together her sanity. Her heart yearned for him. And her mind screamed at her to say no.
Take a leap of faith.
Biting her lip, she gazed into his eyes searchingly. He pressed his forehead onto hers gently, his eyes letting her into his soul as much as he could [because vulnerability was both not their thing].
Taking a slow breath, her eyes closed as she slowly nodded. He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding as he leaned in and softly kissed her. It was short, and full of promise.
"Last chance Caffrey."
"Hey, we got the music box didn't we? Who's to say we won't get the future?" he asked her lightly, his breath warming her up.
She laughed, "Well, we're Neal and Alex."
"That we are."
