Hello everybody! I'm here, with my first (but hopefully not last) Fragile Dreams fic! If you've read any of my other work, this is a bit of a departure from my usual stuff. Still, I'm proud of it.
The lyrics are from the song "Nameless Song (feat. Kagamine Len)" by DATAKEN, and the translation is from anime lyrics dot com. Thanks to Konpeki Rei for betaing this.
And before you ask, I knew about this game before I knew about Cryotic.
All alone in my room
Gazing at the setting sun
Suddenly I'm stricken by loneliness
So I hum a melody
It had been years since Glass Cage, since he chased after the silver-haired girl... more and more people were coming back, and yet Seto felt more alone than ever. It's all so fleeting, he thought, everybody leaves in the end.
He recalled Personal Frame, her sage advice that was vital in escaping the desolated mall. He still carried around the screw she left behind in the shell-shaped locket around his neck. PF, who was his first real contact with the world, outside of the old man who had raised him. PF, who was buried under both dirt and now rubble from the ruins of the shopping center.
Seto didn't notice as he began to hum a melancholy tune.
That nameless song
Gently fills my heart
There are no words for anyone to hear
It's a song all my own
Mmm, mmm, mmm...
He remembered Crow, the boy that despite having been powered down for decades was still his best friend. The skull ring was wrapped around his finger, cutting into his circulation yet never removed. Crow, whose smile still sent a flutter down Seto's spine at the tingle of the kiss. Crow, who was more than just another doll created to imitate humankind.
He could have sworn he heard the faint yet iconic sound of a guitar.
Alone in my empty room
Gazing upon the darkened streets
Suddenly I'm visited with silence
So I break it with a melody
He thought about Sai, the first catalyst, the first victim of Shin's unstable mind. Though she had nothing to give, it seemed that her laugh replayed whenever he glanced at a stuffed animal. Sai, who had tailed him around not just the hotel but the dam and the tower, comforting him when he was frightened. Sai, the ghost of a girl torn from this Earth too young.
Seto began to mouth out the words he was composing.
That nameless song
Softly fills the room
It's nothing for anyone to know
It's a song all my own
Mmm, mmm, mmm...
And Ren. The girl he chased after for so long... only to leave him without a parting remark. And yet that song, that song, the cursed song she always sang, constantly ringing through his ears... Ren, whose crude sketches and feline companions were clues to the end of humanity. Ren, who had never said so much as "thank you."
"Meow?" Seto looked up. At the foot of the bed was an all-black cat, save for a silver streak over its right eye. Seto smiled as it curled on his chest.
"Maybe not everyone leaves... and at least my memories remain..."
And he continued to hum without thinking.
Mmm, mmm, mmm...
