Author's Note: This is a… 'future fic' I suppose. In my mind, Teresa and Patrick finally get together. They are living 'happily ever after' until a threat is made on Teresa life by Red John. Patrick decides that he and Teresa should break-up because he is endangering her. He moves to Connecticut and leave Teresa heartbroken. Turns out, Red John follows Patrick and he joins up with another CBI (Connecticut, California, get it?) to hunt him. Well, this is not what Teresa wants and decides to write him, knowing that he will avoid her if she runs out to Connecticut. These are the letters that she writes to him. This will be a multi-part story. Don't worry, Patrick's view point will be included every other letter! Please Note: The chapters may be short. I will try to make them longer, but sometimes, the less that is said is better in way of emotion... you know?

Piercing words, eyes are red
Watched your taillights in the rain
Empty heart filled with regret
And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
It's never easy, it's like tryin' to spin the world the other way
What can I say?
How did it come to this?
I think about you all the time
But what can I say?

Letter One: Teresa to Patrick

Dear Patrick,

How do I even start? I'm not even angry anymore, just… sad. I can't comprehend why you left. I can take care of myself, I'm not afraid of Red John. I just wanted to be with you. I just wanted to wake up beside you. Why couldn't you see that I loved you? That I still do. I want to see you. I want to inhale your intoxicating scent. I want to be able to dance on your feet and have you tell me that my heels are digging into your shoes. I want to be able to shush you when you come along to the crime scene. I miss your antics, your pranks, and your ability to fall asleep at an instant on that terrible couch of yours. We still keep your tea in the cabinet. Your favorite kind. No one has taken over your desk – it would be wrong.

Patrick, I can't tell you how much I miss you. I feel like I've lost another member of my family. Please, come back.

Yours,

Teresa

Teresa folded the letter carefully, creasing the edges with love. She gently brought the paper to her lips, kissing the short letter. She tried to not let the tears that rolled down her cheeks hit the paper, but in the end, failed. She placed the single, folded sheet into an envelope and sealed it. Teresa had been able to, with difficultly, to find Patrick Jane's current address. Well, his location at the Connecticut Bureau of Investigation. She addressed the envelope in her neat handwriting then got up from the desk to place it in the post-box. On her way to the elevator, she noticed Jane's desk. She noticed that Jane's old teacup was placed on it, as well as a photo frame. Teresa walked over to the desk and picked up the silver frame. Placed in it was a photo of the team on "Pizza Day", the day the team celebrates with a pizza when they close a case. A kind janitor took the photo with Van Pelt's digital camera. The photo shows Cho smiling, unusual for him; Rigsby with sauce on his chin and his hand in Van Pelt's who was grinning with all she had; Lisbon who, while she hated pictures, had diligently put on a happy face; and Jane who wasn't looking at the camera, but looking at Lisbon with all the love in the world. The sight of the picture broke Teresa's heart a bit and she looked away. She continued with her mission to the post-box, eager to get the letter out of her hands and into Fate's.

Maybe it's true, that I can't live without you.
