Disclaimer: Couldn't own it if I tried.

The cold air surrounding him flowed softly back along the office. The cavernous pit that was the Commander's private domain was empty save for Ikari's desk, chair, and the man himself. The time he had been planning for was fast approaching. All of the Messengers had been defeated, the Third had seen to that. Now that he was of no more use there was no longer any reason for Gendo Ikari to concern himself with the pilot.

"Always Pilot, or Third Child, why can't you accept that I am your son," Shinji spat at Gendo.

"That is insubordination Pilot," Gendo said without a tinge of emotion.

"I'm not a Pilot anymore, you saw to that after I finished off Kawrou. I'm just some beat up broken little puppet without a use to you now. Funny how I suppose I can't disagree," Pilot Ikari said.

The Third Child glared at the Commander hard as he continued, "Did you ever think that maybe there was someone just as hurt by Mother's death as you? Did you really think that she'd want you to do what you did? Don't lie to me and say you did this out of grief. You did it because you were afraid! You are nothing but a Coward! And that's the BEST you could have been."

Gendo seethed under the accusations of the Third Child, and found himself fighting to hold his emotions in. "Do you really think I had time to care for a child when there were more important matters?"

"So you weren't a coward you just didn't care. I wonder which one Mother would be more pissed off at."

Gendo clenched his jaw tighter, "I have no time for childish things."

Shinji strangely enough leaned onto the desk and got as close to Gendo's face as he could, "You are a father. You had an obligation, a responsibility to tend to YOUR child. Instead you abandoned me and then spent ten years plotting and planning. You built this entire specially designed level of Hell and then threw your own son and the people he cared about into it. I can't believe you have such contempt for human life."

"Pilots lives are irrelevant, only defeating the Angel's mattered."

Shinji became furious at that, "WHAT KIND OF COMMANDER DOESN'T AT LEAST TRY TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THOSE UNDER HIS COMMAND?! What kind of monster takes delight in forcing his own son to maim someone he called friend?"

"Sacrifices had to be made," was Gendo's only defense of his actions.

"I see. Sacrifices had to be made, by everyone. I wonder if when the time comes that whatever powers there are in the universe will accept that defense," Shinji said. He walked around the desk and leaned into Gendo's ear.

His voice was low and whispered as he said, "You were nothing more then a coward. You prefer to call others that when you know they are better men and women then you. So what if you had to destroy your own flesh and blood to do so? In the end, all that mattered were your best intentions. They are what you used to pave your personal road to Hell."

Gendo turned but found nothing but thin air. He had been alone in his office the whole time.

Author's Notes: After watching a shit load of Battlestar Galactica I got the idea of Gendo being haunted by folk he wronged like Baltar is haunted by Six. Small little drabbles for it though, especially since there are only so many you can do this with. These are set in the brief period of time between the Episode 24 and EoE.
