Life after the End

It's been one year after Aang, the Avatar, defeated Firelord Ozai and saved the world from utter distruction. The four nations are once again in harmony and peace is within our lands. My name is Luna, and my friend Kei and I are going to tell you the story on how the world has changed.

I walked through the rice fields in the Earth Kingdom and sighed. Everything was peaceful, but I wasn't happy. Nothing seemed right with all the calm and happiness around me. It felt as if, at any second, war would erupt and swallow us whole again. Not that I don't trust Firelord Zuko, I do, but something seemed wrong to me.

At seventeen, I'm your typical bender and citizen of the world. Well…except for I'm born of earth benders and I am a fire bender. My village knows what I am, but it still confuses us why it's this way. I will be making a trip to the Avatar in the Southern Air Temple within the month so see if he can tell me why I am the way I am. At five foot three, I'm rather short, and I have long black hair and red eyes that make everyone near me hide in fear, but that's ok. If they cant take the time to know me, they can keep running.

I wandered back to my house where I lit a small candle and meditated, working on controlling the small flame before me. My father came in, cursing something about ungrateful women, and I was suddenly glad to be leaving my Earth Kingdom village just south of Ba Sing Se. I grabbed my bag and ran out the door with a small pocketful of money, and some food. The trip to Ba Sing Se is only a day trip, but with the clouds that were swirling above me I had a feeling it'd be a lot longer.

My day trip turned into a three day journey as I fought against heavy rain and winds that blew be back three steps for every one I took. It was almost enough to make me wish to be an earth bender. Almost, but not quite. I smiled as I created a small fire and used it to dry my clothes in a cave just outside the gates of the city. I put on my dry clothes when the weather cleared, and headed into the city, only to run into the oddest girl I'd ever met in my life. And she was attacking me with a vengeance.
