Chapter 1
I made it into Dauntless. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would have, but I did.
My arms are placed on either side of the sink in Tobias's bathroom, with my sleeves rolled up. I look into the mirror, lifting my head slowly. I don't see a scared sixteen year-old anymore. I see an empowered woman, fiercely staring back at me. Tobias steps into the room, and notices me looking into the mirror. He comes from behind me and wraps his arms around my waist. He looks at me in the mirror, and softly kisses my neck. I feel his warm breath tingling my skin and remember the first time we kissed. When I notice him still looking in the mirror, I smirk. I spin around and kiss him back.
"Have you decided on what you'r going to choose?" he says between kisses. I stop him.
"I completely forgot." I've been so caught up in everything else that I forgot what I'll be doing for the rest of my life. Tobias laughs. I shove him in the shoulder, to show my grattitude.
"Hey! Listen, I'm sure you'll find the right job, it's not that hard choosing."
I consider what he says and nod my head.
"I'll be fine, I have until tomorrow, anyway."
"See? It's not so bad. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm starving. Breakfast?"
"Yeah, I just have to get ready." He leaves the bathroom so I can get ready. I apply a thin line of eyeliner and lipstick and head out the door, hand in hand with Tobias.
We sit down at the table beside Christina, Will, Uriah and his group. I start picking at my muffin, lost in thought about what job to choose. I think my mind has already been set on initiate trainer, that way can be with Tobias, but I could never be as cruel as Eric, dangling new initiates off the chasm. I could work in the tattoo parlour, but then, I've never been creative..
"Hey! Tris, are you even listening?" Christina looks at me, her big eyes searching for an answer.
"What? Yes, of course I am. At least I'm trying too.."
"Ok, well, Will and I have an anouncement." Christina can't help but smile. I cock my eyebrow at her. I turn to see Tobias with the same expression.
"Well, we have decided that we're going to move in together!"
I glance over at Tobias and he rolls his eyes. We always talk about how Christina exaggerates everything and makes an event for everything she can. On their 10th date, she threw a party in celebration. The list goes on.
"Congratulations, guys. This is huge news. When's the party?" I say, with a hint of sarcasm in my tone. Christina huffs.
"We thougt we could have it in two more days, after we choose and there will be new initiates around, they could be fun. You know, instead of having two parties, why not have one big one?"
"We'll be there, won't we Tobias?
"Yes, I'll bring Dauntless's finest." Tobias mocks.
We leave Will and Christina to talk about party favours. On the way back to the apartment, Tobias pulls me the opposite direction.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll just have to wait and see." Tobias grins and squeezes my hand.
