A/N: I wrote this a long time ago, just a short peice set shortly after fannysmacking the song is Nobody Noticed It by Lisa Marie Presley

I heard broken footsteps. Was that you limping
Well I wish that I had spent
Just a little more time
With you
Tears on my ceiling, weren't you watching
Well I guess none of us will ever know
What comes after this

He hid behind hooded eyes and silent tears. He was a lost cause and he knew it, but it seemed like no one else did.

Ever since he came back from the hospital they were all crowding around him like he was some toy that needed to be fixed. He wasn't broken, he was just well...he didn't seem to know.

It pained him that the others fussed over him like a little boy, maybe if they left him alone he wouldn't be broken like they thought he was.

You're still lovely
You were lovely then
All that you had to endure
I guess nobody noticed it
I know your resemblance
It's out there walking
And I wanted you to know that
I haven't forgotten

"Greg?" He looked up into questioning brown eyes.

"Yes, Nick?"

"Do you uh want to..."

"Want to what Nick?"

Nick bit his lip; he didn't know what to say. He wanted Greg out of the funk he was in.

Nick knew of the impending civil suit and he knew what it was doing to Greg, he cursed the James family for all but destroying Greg and leaving the broken shell of man behind.

It had become so bad that Nick hardly recognized him anymore, he didn't like seeing the broken look Greg held in his eyes.

"Want to what Nick?" Greg asked again snapping Nick out of his thoughts.

"Go out."

"Go out? Where?"

"Somewhere, anywhere but here."

"It's dark out."

"Maybe I just want to see the stars, to breathe it all in."

This was Nick's test, to see if Greg had any reaction at all.

"Ok."

Greg was a very good actor Nick decided, he showed no emotion what so ever. He just held a blank stare.

"We don't have to."

"No, Nick it's ok."

Nick watched him, and wished he really was ok.

Well they tried to make you look broken
But not while I'm living
Cause I wanted you to know
I heard what you said while it was raining
You're still lovely

Nick parked the Denali in the sand, the wind whipped across their faces as they got out. Nick watched as Greg pulled his jacket closer around him, he wouldn't look up at the stars.

Nick took his hand causing Greg to look up at him with wide eyes.

"Nick..."

"Just look up Greg and tell me what you see."

Nick heard Greg take a sharp intake of breath as he lifted his head toward the sky.

"Nothing, just a blank sky."

Nick looked at Greg and wiped away the tears that had fallen to his cheeks.

"Everybody keeps asking me how I am, that they feel for me, but no one could never know what it feels like to take a life, I see her face every time I close my eyes screaming at me for killing her son, it won't go away, I'm just like all those people we put away, a murderer."

Nick stared at him, not believing that Greg was doing this to himself, digging himself further into the hole he wouldn't let anyone in.

You were lovely then
All you had to endure
I guess nobody noticed it
You made me
I love you and
Did you know nothing has changed
And everyone they notice
Everyone notices

Nick touched Greg's cheek softly, caressing it as Greg leaned into the touch.

"No, you're not a murderer, you never were Greg, it was self defense."

"How can you say that? You didn't see the mother's eyes or the hateful stare of the brother."

"No." Nick whispered. "Not a murderer."

And he pressed his lips to Gregs' in a intense kiss full of harbored emotions.

"Then what am I Nick?" Greg whispered as they distanced themselves a little.

Nick smiled softly as he ran his thumb over Greg's wet cheeks.

"Still lovely."
