This chapter is short but the following chapters would be a little longer. Enjoy. :D

It was very rare for Mr. Todd and Toby to be in the same room together without the presence of Mrs. Lovett, but here they were, in front of the fireplace with nothing but awkward silence between them.

The man, ever since he saw him, always had his brows furrowed. There were times that he would see him smile, but it was more of an evil grin than a genuine one; this was the reason why Toby didn't know how to approach the barber, although there were times that he wanted to talk to him, just because his mysterious persona intrigued him.

He was trying to get a look of the barber, glancing at him sideways, sizing his mood. He didn't really know when was the right time to interact with the man, but tonight he was going to at least get a word or two out of him. He was hoping to be successful, unlike his mum whose efforts were always in vain.

"Mr. Todd, Sir?" He said carefully, now looking at the barber who was pretending that he didn't hear him.

But, if there was one thing Toby was known for that would be his persistence. Clearing his throat, he tried once more, "Mum's taking awfully long talking with that butcher fella, eh?"

He knew this would grab the barber's attention given he was too possessive of his mother ever since they started courting for almost two weeks now. He was right. Mr. Todd slowly turned his head towards him, glaring daggers at him.

"What do you want?" he asked gruffly;

To say that he was happy was an understatement; Toby was ecstatic. He knew that it was stupid to provoke the man but he was never one for being rational. He knew he had to think of something interesting to say to keep him hooked to keep this conversation going.

It was a good thing he already knew what to say. Smiling to himself, he proposed a deal he knew the barber would accept, "say Mr. Todd, wanna bet who Mum loves the most between us?"

The barber stood up at once, towering over him. He was already prepared for the beating that he would receive. He guessed this was what he would get for pushing Mr. Todd too far. Surprised was painted on his face when Mr. Todd extended his hand and muttered, "Deal."
