He pressed his face against the window, watching the soldiers board the ship. He could not remember where the ship was going, but it did not matter; those soldiers were not going to become invaders.
Nobody else was in the room; everybody was either outside, watching, or doing something else far away. He would have been with either group, except for the two figures at the end of the line.
He could not stand to not watch them leave. At the same time, he could not stand to be to close to them. So here he was, watching from behind a glass wall several stories up. If only he could have said those words, maybe he could be closer...
And then the ship exploded.
He jerked his face away from the glass in surprise, before pressing against it again, looking for them, hoping they were alright...
One familiar figure stood up on shaky legs. He walked a few steps over to another figure, and helped him stand up as well. A taller Irken rushed over to them, saying something and pointing at the building. It probably was telling them to get checked over.
The two looked up at the building. It looked, for a moment, almost like they were looking at him, but he was sure that they could not have been. They were only looking at the building...
He continued watching as they entered the building, as drones finally put out the fire from the ship, as other drones started moving the bodies of the unconscious or dead.
He heard footsteps. He would not have paid attention, but he knew those footsteps very well. He did not move as they entered the room and stopped behind him.
He sighed slightly and pressed a little harder against the glass. He knew he should turn around and say those words. Those words that were very hard to say...
He turned around and leaned back against the glass. For a moment he looked up at the pair of almost identical Irkens, but then he lowered his eyes to the ground.
"Zim... i-is..." Why did this have to be so hard? "...s-sorry."
For a minute, there was nothing but silence (besides the sounds coming from outside) and he tried not to hope that those three words would be enough. Sinking down to the ground, he wrapped his arms around his legs and buried his face against his knees.
A pair of arms wrapped around his chest and gently pulled him away from the wall.
He relaxed and moved into a kneeling position, before looking up in surprise. Purple eyes looked back at him.
A chin rested on his shoulder, and another pair of arms reached around to hug him from behind. He did not need to look to know that this person had red eyes.
He looked down at their three-clawed hands, touching them with his four-clawed ones. They had already started another growth spurt, one of their last ones, as had most Irkens their age. He wondered when he would start his; probably not for a while, like always...
Soon the two of them would have to go and start boarding another ship.
He stopped thinking, stopped wondering, and just enjoyed his last few minutes with them.
A/N: Okay, I have no clue how I came up with this one. Especially the hugging part. (Irkens? Hugging?)
Explanations: This takes place way before the show starts, before Red and Purple became Tallests and the three of them were soldiers together. In this story, they were good friends, but something happened (that was Zim's fault) and they got in a really big argument/fight or something like that. And then after this, the grow Tall and Zim destroys a bunch of stuff and they hate him.
The part about the fingers comes from the fact that Zim has four fingers in the beginning episodes, and three in later ones.
