Secret Messages

As I clung to him,

I felt so safe, so secure

He smelt of cigarettes and cologne

A smell I usually hated

But right now, in this moment

I'd never smelt anything sweeter

My heart skipped many beats

It was pounding so loud

I was sure he could feel it

Or at least hear it,

If he did he didn't seem to mind

He just held me tighter

Like he knew what I was thinking

Like he was saying without words

That he felt it too

It was a connection that was spoken

In a language only we understood

A language communicated through our eyes

Secret messages

Something completely ours

I couldn't help but grin

As he gazed down at me,

All that seemed to matter were his eyes

I saw things there I didn't know existed

Things I never thought he'd say

But here we were sharing

Secret messages

In complete silence
