The TV channels just started showing STARGATE here now, it's the 3rd season and last nights episode was the one where an alt reality Sam Carter shows up cuz her world was over run by the Goa'uld. And I was trying to get some STALKER: SOC fanfic started when it hit me. And Yes, I am not the biggest fan of crossovers, but sometimes, even I can't resist.
The actual STARGATE device is unearthed [see what I did thar?] by an offshoot of the paranormal and occult research department of the USSR. The entire facility is airlifted from the vast icy deserts of Antarctica to Chernobyl NPP, which is also the headquarters and main research facility of the DPORD, where they tried to activate it, and since they had no idea what they were doing, it caused a … well, basically a short-circuit. Thus causing the Chernobyl incident. The stargate was; of course not destroyed.
The artifact was later found by the radical faction perpetuated by the remnants of the DPORD. They dubbed it the "WISH-GRANTER" and thronged to it as a new god. While the scientists did research on how to use the "WISH-GRANTER" the Monolith as they called themselves [unaware of the other device in America] arranged themselves into an almost Goa'uld like cult.
