Each snowfall reminded Abby of the past Christmas, her unofficial
first Christmas with John. But this Christmas it is official. They are a
couple and this is their first Christmas together. With Carter. The love of
her life. And she was the love of his.
The shift was slow. Most Chicago streets have been closed and the blizzard started to pick up again. Maintenance had been out all morning trying to keep the ambulance bay clear. Chen and Pratt had claimed the T.V. in the Doctor's Lounge and Jerry was asleep in chairs. Carter and Abby were no where to be found. But the staff in the Emergency Room at Cook County General were to bored to notice. Yes, it was Christmas Eve, which made any employee pout, but this was a different Christmas Eve. For Abby at least.
As the door creaked open to exam three, Carter made his face visable to Abby, his trademark smile and all. He walked in and she just melted to him as if a candle to flame. He leaned down and kissed her. Every time that they kissed, it just wasn't any old kiss. It meant something. Security. Knowing that he would always be there for her and she there for him. Love.
She managed to pull herself away very reluctantly. "I love you, John."
He pulled out too, his arms still around her waist. "Do you know how long that I have been waiting to say that to you. I just never found the right moment. I love you Abigail Lockhart. This is the right moment."
They hugged, strength combined into one furious ball of love. Love. Something that neither of them have ever felt the right way about before. This was love. No, they were soul mates.
They then feel asleep, curled into each other.
"Abby, rise and shine. Abby," Carter's voice was so genta
