Mist Walking

She watched him, saw the struggle to let the Mistress, she who had been the Master, go. He had forgotten the first trip to Trenzalore. She thought he might have missed the point that she had faced him with the Doctor every single time a conflict between them had risen...and she had killed the Master's current body on more than one occaision.

"No, no Doctor, it's not as if I haven't killed her body before now. I've killed her male version many times during that long walk I took. Remember that? But I'm tired. I'm tired of giving you everything I have and then having you pull this kind of shit." She coldly incinerated the other female and pocketed the instrument.

"I'm done." She told him calmly. "I've got nothing left. I fixed the very last you when you were chasing bogeymen at the end of time. The hand around your ankle belonged to the fingers in your hair and the voice that told you that you were dreaming. That's why I told you to just take off. Not to look." She said simply, then walked away, weariness in every step. Over her shoulder she tossed back. "That hand was mine."

He gaped after her. "Where are you going?"

"No idea. Doesn't matter. The husband I might have had burned a few minutes ago and died weeks ago...and you're not making any offers I want anymore." She paused to turn and look at him. "Just walking though mist and dreams that never actually come true isn't enough anymore, I'm sorry. Especially since you're not even trying to support me through the worst of it like you last go. I wish I could say I'll miss this you but I don't think I will, I do still miss you last you, though. This you stripped away the things that made it worth it. I think I'll always miss the bowtied one. That one, that you, made it worth it. All the yous that I walked beside and helped and fixed, they all made it worth it, somehow they had something that you don't have now. Being with this you...hurts. Good-bye Doctor, for now anyway. Who knows, I might be compatible with the next one."
