Yes, maybe they looked a little weird on his tiny little face.
And maybe no one else wore anything similar to them.
But Matt's goggles made him feel like... a super hero.
Not that he would ever admit that to anyone.

The other children would mock him, laughing at him whenever he would pass them, making jokes about the goggles, but he continued to wear them. He liked them.

He liked them a lot.

One day, one of the older boys held him down and snapped the goggles against his face, laughing all the while. "You're such a dweeb!" he cackled, yanking the goggles off of Matt's head. "Don't expect to see these again!"

As the boy ran off, Matt hugged his knees and cried because he missed his goggles, and the bridge of his nose hurt.

Almost fifteen minutes later, he was still in that same spot, his head buried in his hands. The crying had stopped, but the pure agony of humiliation was still there. He heard a sound---

a sharp sort of thud---

the sound of something hitting the ground, right at his feet.

He looked up; the new kid, Mello, was standing there. He nudged Matt's goggles with his foot. "They are kind of weird," he said;

but he was smiling when he said it.

notes and stuff: First Death Note fanfiction/I wrote that in five minutes; dag, yo! I don't own DN or the amazing song, "Telescope Eyes" by Eisley. I love it totally inspired me to write this, even though Matt's name isn't "Matthew." XD Anyway, review please!
