Title: Firecracker
Author: Kaylee's Teddy
Rating: PG-13 because it's Faith and you know something bad is gonna happen.
Summery: This will(hopefully) be a series of drabbles about Faith's life before she got to Sunnydale. Right now it's just the one so we'll see how it goes.
Disclaimer: I do not own Faith or anything else BTVS related. Joss said let there be scripts and they were good, they were very, very, good.
Faith has never seen the ocean. Not the real ocean, not rising surf and sandy beaches and pretty people with gorgeous tans. When she was little Faith used to run to the ocean, it wasn't the good ocean, the real ocean but she ran to it all the same. Jumped the turn style at the subway and rode all the way out, past downtown, past the aquarium, past the airport, out to Revere that smelled like salt and tar and bodies.
When she was older she stopped going, guys would hit on her, not leave her alone and even if she got them to leave it was never the same, the calm was broken. But when she was little she could sit, sit for hours, ignore the parents with their kids, ignore the seagulls eating french fries out of the trash, ignore it all. She could just sit calm and still and no one would ask her for anything.
In those moments Faith would squint out at the horizon and if the day was bright enough and she blurred her vision enough, she could pretend that it was a real ocean, that she was on some sandy beach in California or Hawaii, that her parents were nearby with a blanket and an umbrella and a cooler full of sandwiches and soda. She could pretend that her mother was sunning herself and to keep Faith out of her hair her father would put her on his shoulders and walk her out too far and she'd squeal and pretend to be frightened.
Faith hopes real oceans are like that. But she doesn't know, she's never seen one.
