He broke down. Right there in the middle of the corridor, people still milling about, he fell to his knees and began to sob. The very sound of it was enough to rip at even the coldest heart. Everyone had stopped to stare, no one daring to taunt him about it, because they all knew, the boy who lived had slowly lost his family and friends, one by one in this war. Most were surprised he had made it this far, after the loss of Hermione, the last one he had left, he had been a broken person but never once showed this weakness in public.

"Get away! Get back, clear this hallway now!" The voice bellowed and everyone scurried away, pulling themselves out of the uncomfortable situation. Draco swept in and collapsed to the ground beside him. It was something people did not know, Harry wasn't alone, he still had one person left, the only one who he had expected to abandon him.

Draco's arms slipped around the still sobbing boy and pulled him close, whispering soothing words in an attempt to subdue the outburst.

"They're all gone. They're all really gone, I-I- oh god Draco, it hurts." Harry looked up at him, green eyes wild and he gripped the blonde's arms. With a hard push, he pinned Draco to the wall, his lips crashing down on the others as if trying to devour him. Draco returned the kiss with equal fervour. Craving that physical contact and show of affection, Harry pushed closer until they were like one. Finally breaking the kiss he spoke as he placed kisses along Draco's jaw. "Don't ever leave me, I can't be alone, I'll die alone, promise me you'll never leave."

Draco pushed away the uneasy feeling in his heart and replied with all honesty, "I promise."

But that moment had been long ago, almost three years. Now Harry stood alone in the middle of the hall, Ministry employees going around him, on one noticed the utter despair etched into his face. He remembered that day, when a promise had been made, one that he had clung to with everything he had, letting Draco's strength hold back his weakness. But in the end it had been Draco's strength that failed, a cruel punishment for being human, death coming to steal him away during the night with no warning. Harry could still feel his cold hands, wrapped around his own when he had woken that morning.

A shiver ran through him. Three days. That's how long he had lived with Draco's death, three days. Today the Ministry had called him in, asking him to retrieve Draco's things from his office. He only made it halfway there when he stopped, simply unable to move any farther.

The memories came back and he looked around, half expecting Draco to come running up and wrap his arms around him, saying everything would be okay. But it wouldn't, he was gone, the light in his life had been thoroughly extinguished and stomped into the ground.

He broke down. Right there in the middle of the hallway, fell to his knees and he cried.
