"You like the Red Skins don't you?" Reid asked his co-worker nervously as he sat opposite her. He cursed his mentor silently for putting him in such a predicament. Just because he told Gideon that JJ was the only person in the world who called him 'Spence' didn't mean he wanted to go on a date with her - especially knowing that she'd feel forced to accept to spare his delicate feelings. Yes he may have a crush on her but he never had any intention to do anything about it; nothing really could be done about it anyway given the strict fraternisation rules in place.
"Yeah I do." Jennifer briefly looked up at him to smile. She knew immediately what he was going to do just as she knew about the crush he had on her; you didn't need to be a profiler to see it. But she also knew she couldn't say no - first because it was a Red Skins game and she hadn't been to see one in what felt like forever, but also because it was one of her best friend's asking - one that could be easily hurt.
"I have some tickets to see them ... if you want to?" Spencer informed her shyly. He shouldn't have done this. Why was he such an idiot? Such a sorry excuse for a genius. "You can have them if you want? I don't really know anything about soccer anyway." Reid could have hit himself for his inability to shut his mouth - he could hear Hotch attempting to cover a laugh with a cough. Maybe he should've waited for her to be alone first, at least then it'd only be her witnessing his humiliation.
"What if I want to go with you?" JJ took pity on the younger man.
"What?"
"What if I want to go to the Red Skins game with you?" She reiterated with a kind smile.
"JJ, you don't need to go with me, it's ok really. Soccer doesn't interest me and I doubt I'd be the most… the best companion when it comes to something like that. You can have the tickets if you want them." He told her seriously wondering why she was dragging this out. He was going to kill Jason Gideon!
"I don't wanna go to the Red Skins game." At Reid's confused expression, she quickly continued. "Unless it's with you. I don't care that you don't know about the game as long as I get to go with you."
"It's this Friday." Spencer stated in complete shock at her words as he pushed away the nagging thought of her doing it so she didn't have to reject him.
"That's great. Pick me up at six." With another smile sent his way he stood up for some coffee and some much needed time to process what had just happened.
