Disclaimer: I do NOT own Yugioh!!! Not even on Valentine's Day

The Price of Peacefulness
Love-what a foolish notion! She was not in love, had never been in love and had no intention whatsoever to change the status quo.

Surely, she reasoned, if she were to fall in love it would be with one who would be her intellectual equal...or at least someone who paused to chew before swallowing.

She snapped at herself for even considering the possibility, and even more so for the invading memories of past duels that flooded into her mind.

Come to think of it...he had won her hand in marriage at some point, hadn't he?

Of course, Jaden being Jaden, he had had no idea what fiancée meant and had merely battled to battle, but still...it had been kind of sweet, hadn't it?

She sighed. Ok, perhaps she hadn't been very honest about her – what would she call it? - sympathy or (a begrudgingly admitted fact) emotions for Jaden...but they were definitely not love!

More of a I-can-stand-you-being-in-my-personal-space kind of thing. Right?

She shook her head. This was utterly hopeless. Why couldn't she have gone for...gosh she couldn't even remember his name...and people thought they were a couple anyway...oh what was it?

Zane! She smiled to herself. Zane was a strategic duelist, unlike Jaden who pretty much played the same strategy over and over.

Sometimes she was really puzzled as to his ability to win so many matches, and even more so, his opponents' unfailing surprise each time he did.

He never changed, though-his duel-plan always involving the combination of two or more monsters, often the same ones, when he was in a bind; and yet, it was seemingly-infallible.

She wondered how far he would be able to get using that particular battle plan...and a small voice inside her questioned whether she'd be there with him, throughout.

Her thoughts were dispelled by a bushy mass of light-brown hair and a brash voice screaming out a greeting she barely caught.

Regardless. She would set her mind at ease that very moment.

Taking determined steps she walked toward the still waving-boy. In one swift motion her arms reached out and pulled him to her in a quick kiss that was as possessive as it was brief, and before

he knew what had happened she was already walking away from him.

Jaden blinked, blankly staring at the now-retreating from, still dubious as to whether he'd imagined the whole thing. He touched a finger to his lips absent-mindedly.

"Well, gee. Happy Valentine's Day to you too, Alexis!"

Author's Note: O.O I honestly have NO idea where that came from! Seriously...I've seen only about three episodes of this series...so things will be all over the place I assume. I apologise for any OOC-ness. It's really hard to have the concept of a character fully estrablished in just three episodes, especially when they are dubbed. T.T

I hope you all enjoy the story, though. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! Lots and lots of love!
