Short oneshot that popped into ny mind, hope you enjoy!
"Newt, what on Earth is going on?" Tina asked in confusion, as he ushered her into his suitcase.
"There's an egg hatching, and I want you to be there." Newt muttered distractedly. He wasn't quite meeting her eyes. Exasperation bloomed in Tina's skull, and she rubbed her temples.
"Honestly Newt, I have work to do. Can it wait?" She tried.
Tina was surprised to see hurt in Newt's soft green eyes.
"No, no, it really can't, sorry." He said, glancing away.
Hasty to fix what she had done, Tina took his hand shyly and nudged him.
"Well, I needed to take a break anyway. Let's take a look then." She smiled, and he brightened considerably.
"Here, come here." He grinned, and dragged her over to a lovely garden that housed some drellicks, soft rodents with two fluffy tails.
Butterflies of all sorts fluttered around, and the drellicks gathered in corners. A single smooth, unblemished egg sat in a nest of roses. It was a perfect ivory, with tawny speckles. The two stood over it, as hairline cracks appeared at the top of it. Like a rampaging river, they spread all across the shell, and Newt handed Tina a golden mallet.
"Hit the egg gently, right at the crown." Newt encouraged softly, repressing a silly grin. The auror gave him a funny look, but knew that he never said anything he didn't mean. Besides, if she was being honest, he had asked her to do stranger things.
With a satisfying tap, the shells fell away to reveal a shiny ring. Her heart and words stopped dead, and she stood in shock.
Newt picked the ring up tenderly and got down on one knee, looking fully into her eyes without any hesitation.
"Porpentina dear, I'm so sorry to intrude upon your work, but I have a very important question to ask you. Will you be my wife?" A beat of silence passed, and Newt fidgeted nervously. "Please?"
A joyous sound, somewhere between a laugh and a cry bubbled out from Tina's lips. Tears slipped down her cheeks, and she cupped her hands over her mouth and nose.
"Yes! Of course yes. Yes!" She cried happily. Newt's shoulders slumped in relief.
"Oh, thank Merlin." He laughed weakly, and slipped the ring on her finger. Her hand curled and around his and brought him up off the floor. She proceeded to promptly wrap both arms around Newt's neck and kiss him firmly.
Needless to say, there was blushing from both.
When they finally broke apart, Tina was still leaning into Newt, her head tucked into the hollow of his neck, and her back pressed against his chest. His arms were stayed around her, and she traced her fingertips over the faint scars decorating his hands and forearms.
Her ring caught the light and she looked at it fully.
"Newt?"
"Mm?"
"Is this a thunderbird?"
"Well, yeah. That is the very thing that brought to America in the first place. Do you like it?"
"I love it. Newt?"
"Yes?"
"I love you."
"Me too. I mean, I love you, I don't love me, that would be-"
Tina cut off his stammering with a light kiss.
"I love you." She murmured.
"I love you too."
