It had always been Remus, with his innocent smile and knowing eyes who had gotten James and Sirius out of trouble while they were at Hogwarts. He'd come around the corner and act surprised to find them there, as if he hadn't know all along. As if it hadn't all been his plan.

He never failed to find a way to distract the teachers or convince them to let his friends go.

And because it had always been Remus who saved him and James (and Peter, but he doesn't want to think about the traitor), Sirius almost expects him to come and help him now.

But he won't. Not this time.

Not since Sirius Black trusted a rat instead of Remus, just because he was a werewolf. He didn't trust one of his best friends simply for the fact that he was a dark creature.

Now there is no more James, and Moony will think it's his fault. Not that it isn't, he just wishes Remus knew about Pettigrew.

That's why, when the Aurors drag him off, he doesn't fight. Instead, he laughs.

Because James is dead, and he's as good as.

Remus won't come and save him, so he laughs.

He doubts he ever will again.
