As the sun began to rise, a carriage arrived at the remote province of Dapitan. "Do you know where the Doctor lives?"PĂoValenzuela asked the first passerby he saw.

Skeptical, the man asked him "Why?", to which Valenzuela gestured to his blind companion. Now confident, the man pointed to his house.

"Forgive me if the house isn't very hospitable, but I wasn't really expecting a visit today," Jose Rizal said as he served the man and his companion a bowl ofMunggo.

"It's quite alright, sir," Valenzuela said, handing Rizal a copy of El Filibusterismo. "I suppose you know our real reason for beinghere?"

"Unfortunately, yes," Rizal said as he accepted.

"You know that your support is very important to our cause."

"No," Rizal said coldly.

"Please, sir! Our people-the Filipinos are looking up to Simoun-to you!" Valenzuela begged him.

"No, I will not support the revolution. (1)Hindi pa handa ang bayan, ikapapahamak lang natin ang isang rebolusyon."

"But in your writings-"

"Simoun has failed. What can you not get about that?" Rizal said. "If you want you're revolution, have it. But I'll warn you that a revolution will do us no good. You will leave tomorrow, and you will leave without my support."

"Then we have placed our fates in the hands of the wrong person," Valenzuela said. "But we will still welcome you with open hands, doctor."
