"No, Kishi, it's way too dangerous. I'm not doing it and you shouldn't either," Amanda complained, backing away from the soupy salt water. "Let's just go home."

Kishi sighed. "You're such a wimp, Amanda. It's just big waves. You deal with it all the time!" She shook her head and stared at the setting sun across the ocean horizon.

"Yeah, but that's during the DAYTIME. Not when it's almost dark! You know that sharks hunt during the night and you can't see if there's coral anywhere. It's really dangerous. You could fall and hit the coral or get bitten by the sharks. You know that! The only reason you want to go out there is because the waves are a lot bigger! Please don't go!" Amanda pleaded, picking up her surfboard and walking back to the top of the sandy shore.

Kishi scowled and waded out to knee deep. She set her board down in the water and lay on it, paddling out past the soup and into the swell. She was going to ride big waves, no matter what Amanda said. She came out for a reason.

As Kishi made her way out, she didn't realize a huge wave forming behind him. It swelled up into a tube, forming around her. Suddenly, it broke and crashed down on top of her, knocking her under. She came back to the surface, only to have another wave knock her down. She opened her eyes, a burning sensation filling her. She shut them again and swam back up. Two waves collided, causing a riptide to form and pull Kishi under. She tried her hardest to free herself, pumping her arms and swimming to the side. She finally freed herself of the riptide, but as she swam to the side and back up, she hit her head against something hard and rough. The coral! Amanda had warned her of it.

"Kishi! Kishi! Can you hear me? I'm going to get help! Kishi!" Amanda screamed from the shore, dropping her board and running to find a lifeguard or and help.

Kishi could only hear a slight sound as the darkness encountered her. Her mind grew black and life collapsed within her.
