The rant is about the "new" Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes "reinvention." The goodbye because, I'll be "on holiday" for the next week. God Bless, -Amanda
Early one morning I awoke to loud sounds coming from the sitting room. Watson was up well before me. He had luggage by the door, and was busy practically throwing his books into a large leather bag.
"What are you doing?"
"I've got to get away Holmes." His voice was agitated, his clothes rumpled, face stubbled, and eyes bleary. Obviously, he hadn't slept.
"Whatever is the matter??"
"I need a holiday! I'm going far away!"
Watson often took trips to the country to enjoy what he called "fresh air and scenic beauty," but he never just ran off.
"But why??"
"Just look at this! Just look!" He practically threw a letter at me. Was that brandy on his breath?
The letter was from the Strand, postmarked yesterday. It read like some horrible practical joke. The publishers of the Strand had decided that Sherlock Holmes mysteries needed a 'fresh new look' that 'appealed more to the current generation.'
I looked up, "What? They dont think your stories are good enough anymore?" Watson shook his head and sighed. Poor fellow, no wonder he was so distraught. I continued reading.
'Sherlock needs to be more action, less angst, more romance...'
"Romance?!"
Feeling faint, I went to the side table and helped myself to the brandy.
"You know Watson, I think I need a holiday too."
Note to my editor: Help cleaning up grammar and punctuation would be much appreciated! As I have to keep packing and just had to get this up today...and I'm impatient
