The young man saluted as he entered his commander's office in Cheyenne Mountain.
" You wanted to see me, sir?"
"Yes, Lieutenant. I have just recieved a memo from the President. It states that all who participated in trying to apprehend the dangerous aliens, are going to recieve promotion for their efforts. Regardless of the outcome, you acted in the best interest of the service, and your country. You showed true bravery and initiative, and your efforts are not in vain. An early congratulation, to you then, Lieutenant", the commander said, shaking the tall stocky man's hand.
"Thank you, sir," said the young man.
Thirty odd years later.
"Oh, by the way, Colonel, " smiled General Hammond to Jack during SG1's return briefing.
" I don't think I ever told you of why I recieved my first promotion..."
