The Scar
She still had the scar. A thin white line, marring her pale throat. He knew it was rough to touch; he had run his fingers along it. Just once, right after Mie Chan had healed it. He had to be sure she was fine.
Roy had to tear his eyes away from her. He could almost see the blood. So much blood. Crimson staining the ground, her shirt... her hands... her golden hair... Her neck. It had been so close. It still scared him every time her collar fell low enough for him to see it. It had been fatal... if Mei Chan hadn't been there...
He couldn't bear it, the thought of only being able to hold her as she bled to death.
His heart had almost stopped when that man had pulled the knife across her throat. He'd never been as scared, as horrified, as he was in that moment. He still had nightmares, where it happened again and again. In his dreams Mei wasn't there and he couldn't save her.
She told him that she would push him to the top. She had promised to protect him, that night in Ishbal.
But a long time ago, before he had joined the military, when he had first seen the tattoo, he had made that same promise.
To protect her. To not let anyone hurt her.
But he couldn't. In that moment he had been helpless.
"It's not your fault, Sir." She muttered, pulling up the collar of her uniform.
