The Duel of the Fates

Jedi Goat

----------------------------------------

The doors swoosh open

And the Naboo barge in

To retake Theed Palace

Their banner of hope waving

In their determined hearts

A flame of defiance

Against the Trade Federation's invasion

In an instant the battle droids swivel

To face the rebellion

And their blasters let loose

A stream of fire

Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn

Move to defend the Naboo

Lightsabers slicing through the chaos

Droids clatter to the ground, defeated

Broken parts strewn across the hangar

Pilots rush to their ships

And rev the starfighters' engines

Blasting out of the hangar

To defend their planet

The ships glisten in the sunlight

Beacons of hope for the rebellion

The current battle won

The Naboo regroup

They march toward the palace doors

When the double doors slide open

A menacing figure stands in their way

Wrapped in a black cloak

The Naboo slide to a stop

Staring in horror

The figure raises his head

Revealing feral yellow eyes

Set in a red-and-black tattooed face

Qui-Gon steps forward

"We'll handle this," he orders

The Naboo split up

Leaving the Jedi a clear path to the door

Master and Padawan stride forward

And the three antagonists face off

The cloaked figure lowers his hood

His chilling head is crowned by sharp horns

Staring coldly at the Jedi, he removes his cloak

And the Jedi do the same

The figure takes a lightsaber from his belt

And steps into an attack position

He ignites one end of the red blade

And then the other

His challenge is issued

The Jedi ready their weapons

For a moment they stand in silence

Until suddenly the Sith charges forward

Blow, block, blow

Master and Padawan move fluidly, in unison

But the Sith meets them with his skill

He whirls, dodges

Everything is a blur of flame

The lightsabers hum their gentle tune

Until clash, bang, sizzle!

They collide in mind and body

Screaming in rage

The battle moves onward

Deeming him inferior, the Sith knocks Obi-Wan aside

One Jedi and one Sith

Dance a deadly duo into

A hall of laser force fields

The red blockade sizzles to life

Separating opponent from opponent

They watch each other's every move

Qui-Gon meditates, calm and serene

While the Sith paces like a predator waiting for its prey

Feral yellow eyes leering

And a lonely Padawan rushes to join them

In an instant

The force fields are dropped

Battle resumes; wills collide

Master and Sith duel out into the next chamber

Leaving a Padawan to catch up

Obi-Wan watches in shocked horror

As the Sith smashes his lightsaber

Into Qui-Gon's chin

A deliberately dirty blow

The lightsaber comes around

Stabs into the Master's chest

And Qui-Gon falls away

"NO!"

The Sith turns

His evil, mocking stare onto the apprentice

Obi-Wan waits in anger, anguish

Clawing at his insides

Force fields fade

Obi-Wan rushes out

He flips, he whirls, fighting with all his strength

But still the Sith pushes him away

And down Obi-Wan tumbles, into a pit

By a thread he hangs

Grasping a red rung

He stares up at the Sith

Gloating, slashing at the metal floor, sending up sparks

Obi-Wan draws on the Force

And he leaps into the air

Taking the Sith by surprise

Qui-Gon's lightsaber flies into his hand

And he strikes the final blow

The Sith blinks, staggers back

His two halves falling, spiraling

Into the waiting darkness

Obi-Wan runs to his Master's side

But it is already too late

"Train him. Train Anakin," Qui-Gon gasps

Before his spirit escapes his fallen body

And Obi-Wan weeps, so terribly alone

While outside

Banners fly and the Naboo celebrate their victory

Freedom is theirs

At a cost.

The End
