Korra let out a content sigh as Mako's finger traced up and down her spine. It occurred to her that Mako really shouldn't be there with her, he should be with Asami. Korra knew that was how it was supposed to be, but she really couldn't care at the moment. With him, his warm body resting next to hers, comforting her, she didn't have a care in the world. It had been a week since she had escaped. The scars that decorated her body were no longer the fresh pink they had been, but were now a light tan. In some ways, Korra wished they would stay around. Mako had gotten into the routine of tracing them with his fingers, and sometimes, as she drifted off to sleep, he would lay a small kiss on the ones on her arms and cheek.
"Mako?" Korra mumbled, keeping her eyes closed. She bit back a tiny sigh that threatened to pop out, and distract her trail of thought.
"Hm?" His fingers ran over a soft spot on her back, and she let out the sigh.
"I just wanted to say thanks for staying here…with me," The fingers stopped their motion, and Korra propped herself up on her fore-arms. "Why did you stop? I like it when you do that!"
She stared at him, and tilted her head slightly, confused. He had a look draped across his face that she had never really seen before. In the back of her mind, she had the beginnings of an idea, of what that look might mean, but she most likely wrong. Korra hoped that she was right, that he was about to do what she thought he might. She prayed to the Spirits that she was right. She reminded herself that he was with Asami. What she was feeling, what she wanted him to do, she shouldn't be feeling that way. But by the Spirits, she just couldn't help herself. And as he started to lean towards her, and her thought was confirmed, the butterflies that had been dormant for so long, finally sprung to life again.
Korra let her eyes close, and she waited. Nothing could prepare her for the feeling of his lips, as they brushed against hers lightly, and then a just a little more forcefully as the moments passed. Their first kiss had been nothing like this one, it had been a spur of the moment thing, and didn't hold as much meaning as this one did. Korra sighed, and this time it came from the bottom of her heart. Mako's hands cradled her face, his thumb running over the scars on her face. This time around, the kiss held meaning. For both of them.
"Korra, do you know how worried I was about you? Every possibly second I can get with you, I am taking it. Do you understand that?" Mako said as he pulled away, breaking the kiss. She looked him in the eyes, and understood.
" Yeah. I'm starting too."
