Severus Snape was standing outside the Gryffindor common room

Severus Snape was standing outside the Gryffindor common room, looking like a total lemon. His mouth was dry but his palms were slightly sweaty. Today was the day ! he thought. The day he would conquer his only love's heart and … er … figure out what to do next.

His heart stopped as the fat lady's portrait opened and then relaxed as four boys he absolutely despised clambered out. One of them, the smallest and roundest fell flat on his face. Severus couldn't help but sneer. Typically Peter Pettigrew – why did he follow the other boys, the cool boys, the admired boys around. They took no notice of him and just kept walking. The temptation to curse one of them in the back was very hard to resist – but he did it anyway. As much as she didn't like them, she didn't like him cursing them either.

Severus quit pitying Pettigrew as a pretty teenage red-head climbed gracefully out of the portrait. His heart stopped and it felt like several seconds before it beat again : here was the only target of his affection as long as he lived … It was heaven, heaven on earth, when she smiled at him. As if she was pleased to see him.

'Hey Sev !'

'Hey Lily, I wanted to tell you som-'

'Sure ! But could we head down to breakfast ? I'm starving, I skipped dinner to do that essay in Transfiguration. How did you do ?'

And all his courage left him. Why not leave it as friends ? It was nice, having Lily as a friends. As they rounded the corner he heard a low voice –

'No, Prongs !' Was that Remus ? And that slap, was that Pettigrew being slapped ?

'Heya Lily ! Fancy having breakfast with us ?' James swearword Potter. Why ?!

'No thanks that's good.' Lily answered without even looking at James. Or indeed any of the Marauders. It made Severus's heart soar, the way she looked at him and not Potter.

'Well, we'll still sit next to you.'

'Potter ! You-are-imp-ossible !'

Well… There was no point trying to declare one's love with James famous Potter sitting next to the girl of one's dreams and pestering her over breakfast. Just like that time where he shoved an iced bun up his - ... Just for attention. He gave up. Temporarily.

A/N : Well !! R&R, you know the rules ! To be continued ? Maybe ! Hugs and lemons, Padfoot Rules x
