Death was beside him since ever...
"I almost died in childhood."
...trying to reach him through the hands that gave him life...
"My mother tried to poison me."
...piercing his heart with the same blade...
"I had to kill my brother."
...mocking all his efforts...
"My father died when I tried to protect him."
It took away everything that was dear to him...
"Kojūrō..."
Kojūrō had been looking at his general for some time now. Masamune-sama must have drunk too much to come up with something like this. The new moon always used to depress him, and the sudden parting with Sanada Yukimura didn't make the situation any better. The One-Eyed Dragon was sitting on the rock, his back turned, and didn't even had enough strength to keep his head up.
"You shouldn't hang around with me."
Kojūrō sighed inwardly. It deserved the punch. Straight into face and honestly. It seemed to be the favourite method of Tiger of Kai to raise Sanada Yukimura's spirits. Had Masamune-sama not been drunk... and had he been not Masamune-sama... and even though he was Masamune-sama... Things being as they were, Kojūrō merely sat down next to him and laid, not so heavy, hand on his head. Like he used to do long since... someone else wouldn't even remember. Kojūrō remembered - each moment and each situation when he had posed as a mother, father and brother for Masamune. His Right Eye he had been always.
Perhaps it was why he saw it all better.
"It was already too late twenty years ago."
Masamune leaned against him, letting the bottle slip from his hand. It fell on the soft grass, never disturbing the evening silence. A single tear flew down, but there was no light to expose it. The dragons used to shed the tears only during the moonless nights.
Kojūrō knew moon would appear as soon as tomorrow.
All it took was to wait.
