The Bet

A bet. It had sounded so simple. And yet here I was, watching as the life drained out of my sister.

"Hey Sis! Betcha can't take out a Demon Beast!"

"Just wait Bun! I'll get the biggest Demon you'll ever see!"

And she did. The black griffin lay to the side, its wings splayed apart, its eyes glazed over in death. At first, there was only screams and dust, until she landed the deathblow. I thought to cheer, but then I saw her fall, ran to her. She opened her eyes and saw me holding her hand.

Running on the beach, together.

"It looks like I win, Bun." She whispered. I was suddenly angry at myself. How could I have been so stupid? She was the one I counted on, the one who defended me, the one who always stood by me, the one who was always there for me. And yet I had thrown it away like trash with this stupid bet.

Giving Fumu a gentle hug.

"Sis…I'm sorry." Looking down at her open chest, I could see the red heart beating faintly, sending up ting wisps of steam wherever the sweet, cool rain fell. She dabbed her fingers in the warmth and rubbed the blood on my forehead into three wavy lines.

Would you cry in heaven?

"You shouldn't be okay? It's for the best. Maybe we'll meet again soon. And Bun?" Her voice choked. I stared at her, waiting.

"I…love you…" Then her hand went limp, her heart ceased beating, and her breath no longer clouded the air.

Kirby! I have a present!

Warm tears slipped down my face, mixing with the cold droplets. It seemed then I came to a final decision. Taking my knife out of its sheath, I rested it against my heart. Oh we would meet again, very soon. After all, what did I have left? All my friends had moved away, Mom and Fumu were dead, my father was dying, Kirby had left, and Meta Knight didn't care about me enough to keep me here. In a second of madness, I plunged the blade deep into my chest. At first, it felt like my chest was on fire, but then it dulled to quiet pain. I fell against my sisters cold body, blood, tears, and rain forming a small pool at my feet. Blood filled my mouth and flowed from my lips. Looking up, I could see her departed soul wheeling through the rain above me. Only now did I realize how good it felt.

Snowboarding with Kirby.

Her winged form dipped down towards me.

"Come on Bun!" She came closer, "Don't be scared. I'll guide you to heaven."

Will you stay with me?

Will you wipe away my tears?

Will you take me?

Be with you?

Were I truly belong?

I felt a sudden release, and then I was in the sky with, dancing through the clouds. Turning back, I saw our bodys together, growing cold. Clapping my wings, she took my hand in hers, and together, we soared into the heavens

Will you dance with me?

Show me the light?

Take my hand?

Be my savior tonight?

I…love you.
