Prologue.
"Amelia. Amelia, sweety, wake up we're here." My dad's voice woke me from my slumber. I opened my eyes to an empty plane with my dad hovering over me. I smiled, we're here, Forks, Washington.
Now, Forks wasn't a place to be jumping up and down, doing cartwheels over, but it was my home. Well, my new, permanent, home. You see, dad and I have been moving around, place to place, for five years after mom died. His job required traveling, and since he went to college for business managing he took the job. Luckily, he was upgraded to supervisor and had to stay in one place, we were moving to Forks.
When we arrived at our new house I immediately started decorating my room. The walls were already a sky blue, my favorite color, so all I needed was to put my clothes and other belongings away.
It was already passed midnight and I was exhausted. There was only one more box left to organize, though, so I might as well get it over with. PICTURES I had written on the top of the box, so I took a deep breath and opened it.
I cried, I couldn't help it. The first two picture frames I saw was one with my mom and I, and the other with my best friend from Jacksonville, Isabella Swan. I lived in Jacksonville for eight years with my mom when my parents got a divorce. Bella was my only friend, the only one that was there for me when my mom died of a heart attack when I was thirteen.
"Hey AJ," Bella laughed from behind me. I turned around and saw her holding a hose my way.
My eyes widened and I took small steps back, "Bella, don't." To late.
All in all, we laughed that whole day. It was a Friday, our regular sleepover day, and it was at Bella's house. We always had fun, and we did that day, too, until around nine at night.
There was a knock at the door, Bella and I were watching movies in her living room, so her mom, Renee, answered it. There was two police officers, they had their hats off.
"Is this the Swan Residence?" One of them asked and Renee nodded. "We're sorry Miss, but can we speak to an Amelia Carter?"
I got up, taking Bella with me, my awkward thirteen year old body looking up at them.
"Honey, we have bad news." I looked at them, eyes wide with fear. "It's about your mother." My breath caught in my throat and I started shaking uncontrollably. "She had a heart attack on her way home, she was driving and couldn't control the wheel to pull over. It became out of control. She died, killing herself and putting two others in critical condition. We're sorry, hon. Is their anybody you can stay with until your dad arrives her in two days? We already informed him."
I couldn't talk, my body was shaking with sobs. I couldn't see, my eyes were blurry with tears. I couldn't feel – my heart was broken.
"She'll stay with us." Was the last thing I heard before sleep took over my body.
The last time I saw Bella was five years ago at my mother's funeral. The last time I talked to Bella was two years ago. I knew she moved away from Jacksonville, and I knew she was here, in Forks. But, why bother talking to her anymore? She blew me off after finding her perfect boyfriend. Edward Cullen.
