Authors Note: Just a little one shot that came to me. I just got to thinking about season 3 ep 1 and I couldn't help but notice that really it was the first time that the people had seen Robin act like a human being, so broken and so affected and it was also the first time that Robin and Marian had become public knowledge and I suppose that had to change their opinions of the, as Tuck would say, "legend". It had to humanize him some bit, so…one shot.
Human
He was a legend.
A hero.
He was Robin Hood.
He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor. He saw injustice and he fought to stop it. He tried to wash away evil and replace it with good. He fought for England, he fought for her people.
He was Robin Hood.
He was a tale sung by bards, a legend whispered from the mouths of children, a hope in everybody's hearts. He was the spirit of England. A crusader of peace and justice. He was everything.
He was Robin Hood.
He was a ghost. He could walk through walls. Appear out of the nothing. He was an enigma, a mystery, how he had come to be nobody seemed to know, was he real? A question some people still wondered.
He was everything. Dreams, hopes, power, justice, peace, spirit, fire, passion. He was a legend. A hero. He was Robin Hood.
But that day he returned after his absence in the Holy Land he was something else. The day he came to Locksley to seek vengeance for his dead wife the people thought something different.
He was a broken man, uncompleted, grieving. Tormented by the loss of a woman he loved. Agonized by her death. Enraged by her murder. Hell bent on revenge.
He was Robin Hood. He was never far from people's thoughts, whether in hate or love, he was always there, always a puzzle that nobody could quite figure out. Robin Hood was a lot of things.
Yet for some reason nobody expected him to have a heart, to have desires of his own, to have held the love of a woman, to have loved a woman, to have lost, to have grieved, to be broken and hurt.
To be human.
He was Robin Hood, a legend, a hero, he wasn't supposed to be, the people had not expected him to be and yet it was clear to everyone.
He wasn't supposed to be human.
But he was.
