Everything changed on that hot summer night ...
The Summer vacation was about to end . Everyone was excited to get back to their everyday routine. Us , students , were anticipating the new school year . For me life was getting excited , I
was about to start my High School life and as all fifteen year old girls I couldn't wait to wake up early in the morning , have breakfast and rush to the school bus stop , get my first boyfriend ,
my first kiss , the ups and downs of a normal teenager but I never imagined that a phone call on that hot summer night can change everything.
I opened my eyes to the sound of the pilot announcing our arrival to "INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT". The couple next to me was woman "Clara" had told me hours before th
that they were newly-weds heading off to their honeymoon when they got a call from back home telling them to cancel their plans and get back immediately because her father-in-law had a
heart attack and the doctors didn't know how much longer he had time to were a nice couple , they told me the story of how they met , the dates , the first encounters of the two fa
families...But all along the ten hour and seventeen minute flight this woman never once complained or badmouthed her father-in-law but instead she shed tears while telling me how good a
and nice of a person he was while her husband siting next to her grieved with her by remembering and sharing only the good things of this person and persuading themselves that life is mo
moving on and so should they. The thing I was never able to do.
The passengers were starting to get in line to get off the plane and so did we , the couple ,now awake , and I got in line while talking about the other passengers . Out of the plane and now
inside this airport that I couldn't know and understand the way out of it , Clara suggested that I stayed with them until we got out . While waiting for our luggage Clara told me that I would
love it here and I'm going to have a lots of fun but the thing that I wasn't able to say to her was : '' How the hell am I supposed to love a country that I know nothing about it , that I even
don't know that much of the language either , only the basics." But all I did was smile and nod to this beautiful woman that I wished , a millions of times in my head , to be my mother. After
getting our luggage they showed me the way out and told me that they had to go because their families were waiting for them. We hugged and said our goodbyes and when I was about to get
in my way I heard Clara yelling " Have fun in Seoul my dear friend " I stopped , turned back and yelled " I'll try " and that was the last time I saw her and her kindhearted husband.
Now out , they were people holding balloons and flowers while waiting for their loved ones but I knew that the person waiting for me wasn't there so I passed them and arrived to the place
where people hold name cards in their hands to welcome us . After a long investigation and search I finally found it , written in black and white my name :
Kim Serena
