I don't own One Tree Hill

It was his big day, but it wasn't theirs.

She said no he reminded himself It's her fault.

He looked over to Nathan, his best man- who was looking at him suspiciously, while simultaneously fixing his tie.

Lindsey said yes, she loves me. But she'll never be ... He stopped himself, he was getting married today But to the wrong person.

"You okay?" Nathan asked him

Lucas looked up at him,

"How do I know that she's the one? That I won't regret this?" He asked worridly

"Close your eyes." Nathan instructed "Imagine yourself in ten years. It's a summer day and your kids are in the yard playing, while you and your wife look on. Who is it?"

"It's her" Lucas answered, clearing everything up for himself but nothing for Nathan.

There was a knock at the door as Mouth stuck his head through.

"It's time." He said, oblivious to Lucas' previous doubts.

Nathan looked at Lucas,

"You ready?" he asked

"As I'll ever be" Was his response. The two walked down the aisle as Lucas did his best to avoid eye-contact with anyone until he reached the front pew and spotted his mother and Lily, to whom he forced a smile, before continuing to the alter.

The music started playing, but it wasn't lively and joyful as it should have been, instead it just depressed him. Lindsay was walking towards him, as she reached the foot of the alter he met her, took her hand, and kissed her cheek. They then walked hand-in-hand to the top of the alter.

Lucas looked across to Haley, but she had eyes only for Nathan. They were perfect for each other, two halves of a whole, and they were lucky to find each other so early on in life.

Lucas moved his eyes to the congregation, his friends, family, and well-wishers. But he couldn't see her. He looked back to Nathan, who was watching the minister, so Lucas watched him too.

As much as he tried, all he could see was her, their memories.

He looked at Lindsey for the first time since he had kissed her cheek. She looked beautiful, but she wasn't what he had dreamt about since he was a child.

The minister said something, Nathan put his hand on Lucas' shoulder

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Lucas asked

"Do you Lucas Scott take Lindsey Strauss to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and to hold, till death do you part?"

Lucas looked back at Lindsey, he couldn't do this to her.

"I'm sorry, I... I can't" he stuttered out and left to the room he had been in before returning to the room he was in before. He sat down and put his head in his hands.

What had he just done? Lindsey was the safe option, sure he was settling, but she wouldn't hurt him like he had just done to her.

He wasn't sure how long he had been there when he heard a knock on the door. He looked up as a voice spoke,

"So what was that about?" Peyton asked

Lucas stood up and walked over to her,

"Today was meant to be a dream come true, and I've told you before Petyon. It's you, the one that I want next to me when all my dreams come true, it's you. I love you." he smiled at her, all previous doubts gone as he pulled her into a powerful, emotional kiss that said it all. It was her.
